Did anyone else notice how the new CBA demands that college players be signed within a few months of their graduation and how the Sabres re-acted? Instead of picking someone like Stafford of Adams who would have to be signed in 3 years, they picked a ton of guys who didn't opt in as 18 yearolds in order to play in prep school or a developmental league who will have 4 years to be signed.

So the reason the sabres picked college players in the past is so they didn't have to invest in their development.

I understand they drafted them to save development costs and give them time to see if they were worth signing. I was just pointing out that rather than draft an 18-19 yearold who has completed his freshmen year and would have to be signed at 21-22 (3 years), they have drafted guys who are 18-20 and haven't begun college which gives them 4 years and ages 22-24 to sign them.
