His comment is in response to Mike Richards saying that the Sabres are practically getting away with Murder on the ice, and then the Officials go and call Carcillo when ever he's involved with someone.

I see where Mike is coming from, it has been apparent all series long that Buffalo can throw whoever to the ice infront of MIller but it cant go the other way.

Miller also commented on Richards comments saying that he is trying to take attention away from himself for getting the elbow up etc.

What gripes me is that Lindy's response to Mikes comments. After calling the Flyers whiners, which I dont care about, he uses the pp total as a means of arguing his case. What he doesnt realize is that it doesnt matter how 'even' the PP's are, what matters is the right calls are made, and when Buffalo gets away with punching in the face, and throwing guys to the ice after every whistle, when the Flyers are getting called for that stuff, of course there will be complaints.

All this adds up to a buffalo beat down come friday. My brother has tickets, I am VERY jealous its going to be one of the best showings by this team in months. Miller stole a game but you cant steal a series when you cant see the puck half the time as it goes whizzing past you. Flyers are doing everything right, hold the front of the net, get tips, create scrambles. Sure fire way to beat any goalie.

It's really not intelligent of Ruff to start calling people out in the media.

The smart move for him is just to be quiet and let things play out. The more riled up the Sabres make the Flyers, the worse it is for them. Buffalo's best chances of winning this series are to have a nice, slower pace and keep things flat. You don't want to pull the tiger's tail...

Well, you don't want to let the Flyers control the public message unchallenged and possibly sway refs minds that there is truth to the claim.

Yeah, but you don't want to make inflammatory comments either. Calling it whining, and shifting focus onto Richards like that will only serve to fire him and the Flyers up...which is a bad thing.

It would have been a smarter tact just to discuss the penalty minutes and not be so dismissive as to call it whining. Call it posturing, call it something else, but you tell a hockey team they're whining and you're going to give them a spark.

Do we really think Richards and co. weren't going to be fired up for Game 5 of a 2-2 playoff series?

I didn't say that, but you don't want to give them any extra ammunition.

Bulletin board material.

Why say anything that might give your opposition a little extra motivation?

Well, they were talking about it on CSN earlier. Had Kerry Fraser on the show too.

As said, because you want to neuter it in the public sphere so the refs aren't going into the game thinking the Flyers were getting the shaft in Buffalo. It's both sides playing to the refs, nothing more.

I don't buy that speaking publically about the refs will influence them any more than they already are. Every ref has his biases and either coach speaking out between games isn't going to do that much to change them.

It's more of a motivator to the players of either team than it is the refs... if the players aren't sequestered from the media. Either way, if Lavi slaps a headline on the board before Game 5: 'Ruff calls Flyers whiners', I'm sure they'll have a little extra spring in their step.

Did you watch Game 5 of the SCF? Blackhawks absolutely bought some calls on Pronger by chirping about it over and over.

It's the easy answer to point to the posturing.

I don't believe for a second that the Hawks *****ing about what Pronger gets away with led to any extra calls on him.

It is oddly coincidental that he was getting away with some of those calls against him that game all series, however.

Guys get away with stuff all the time, for long periods of time, before some ref steps in and makes a call. It's one of the most infuriating things about NHL referees.

Pronger was hit with 3 penalties in the final two games of the series, after the Hawks *****ed about his play. I wouldn't attribute any to the lip service paid by the Hawks... just another example of inconsistent officiating.

If the fans or the team need this stuff from Ruff to motivate them then we are in trouble.

And to quote an old 101st Airborne cheer...

"What did the little dog say?"
"Ruff, Ruff Ruff.."
