Brad Boyes ... Hello?

Among others, Brad Boyes needs to get his streakiness going in the other direction. Officially calling out Boyes .... Make it happen.

Trade him in the off-season for a real center. Pominville and Stafford > Boyes.

Did you read anything about this thread being about keeping or trading him? I must have missed that.

I need more from Boyes, Ennis, and Connolly. A lot more.

It's like Deja vu from the Ennis thread.

Let's bag on a guy playing a position he's not good at due to injuries that forces him to consider an entirely different M.O. on the ice. Capital idea!

Whether he plays wing or center, it still doesn't explain his unwillingness to go to the net and fight through traffic. Like Ruff said recently, all three of Ennis, Boyes and Stafford have been guilty of playing the perimeter more than crashing the crease.

Other than a few shifts here and there, Boyes hasn't solved that bad habit even with new linemates.

Ennis-Connolly-Boyes

Would make one hell of a whipping boy line!

I actually think Boyes has looked a lot better since being demoted and put on the wing.
He rang one of the goal pipe last night. It missed by an inch.
But I thought he's looked confident, engaged and one of our more dangerous playmakers with the puck- when he's had it on his stick.

I will agree that he needs to get his nose a little dirtier around the net, and put in some harder work away from the puck.

The Sabres have had bad luck trading their 2nd round pick.

Hecht (2 2nds), Rivet (2 2nds), Moore, Torres and now Boyes.

In retrospect, I'll take the picks.

You're really including Hecht in that group? And Boyes has been much better on the wing the last two games, especially game 3. Hopefully we can see some results of it on the scoreboard.

For 2 2nd round picks.... yes, I am including Hecht in the mix. I have mixed feelings about Jochen. I'm not sure trading 2 2nds is better than signing a Begin in FA.

He's a pipe away from this thread not existing.

I'll give him another game to hit the scoresheet. He's not killing them, but I'd like him to help.

I'll trade second round picks for solid NHL players all day long.

6 years of Jochen being very solid (on our top line for a few years with Briere and Pominville), arguably our best two way player right now, and can play wing and center. He's averaged around 20 goals per 82 games and 40-50 points. He's been worth far more than 2 2nd round picks. And Begin couldn't carry Jochen's jock. His career highs are 7 goals and 23 points and isn't particularly better than Jochen defensively over these 6 years. Begin certainly isn't better at this moment in time.

I added Hecht in the discussion because of the topic (2nd round picks). There is no question I would prefer Hecht to Begin. The question is do I prefer Hecht at 3+M over 2 2nd round picks. The 2006 draft (the most recent to have NHLers on rosters) had the following:

Neuvirth, Nodl, Enroth, Lucic, Seabrook, Carle, Geoffrion and Weber.

Obviously, there are misses, but 2 shots at a Lucic, Seabrook or Stasny with 3M extra to spend on UFA would have been my choice in retrospect.

This is an odd time for this thread to come out, I thought he was our best forward in game four.

He was traded 2002, so there's no point comparing him to the 2006 draft. Also weird that you're mentioning Seabrook, Carle and Weber. You're confusing some players, Keith Seabrook (brother of Brent's), Mathieu Carle and Yannick Weber were drafted in 2006 and frankly none of them are even on the NHL roster. Stastny was drafted 2005.

The picks Hecht went for became Jarret Stoll and Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers. Stoll makes more than Hecht and I doubt he brings much more to the table. Obviously Hecht has been better over the last 6 years. Deslauriers is a journeyman back-up. If you want to play the hindsight is 20/20 card, I'll give you this: The only players drafted in the 2nd round that I'd take before Hecht are: Duncan Keith. That's it. You could make a case for Matt Greene or Tomas Fleischmann, but none of them are significant upgrades if any at all. So basically 6.67% shot at Duncan Keith and 93.33% of getting a inferior player who won't help you for several years for 100% Jochen Hecht.
