(2) You can take your message to the rest of the community and inflict in upon every thread. That doesn't mean you have to fight every negative nancy and try win them over. But just enjoy the team, enjoy the victories, enjoy the small wins. Also acknowledge the problems but more importantly, don't whine about them but offer your fellow posters potential solutions and also help them see the good things that we do have.

I'm not one for making New Year's resolutions but at the start of this year, I decided I was going to make a change in my online posting habits. I was going to stop being so negative. For me, I've always enjoyed internet forums, but I've also been a big debate fan and for me, it was about debating with people, aka a mental joust.

But I decided that I need to stop battling myself and others in the process. It was time for me to take a different approach. It was time for me to still continue posting because I enjoy that, but it was time for me to post differently, to post in a way that would make a positive difference. I've changed my outlook on things.

Yea I still enjoy debating but I try to bring a positive message. I've learnt that you can win people over by being nice to them as opposed to arguing with them. The expression that its easier to bake with sugar than salt is true.

Positive reinforcement works so much better than punishments. So my point is this, don't sit and hide in this thread but make a commitment to yourself and others in this thread if you want, to be more positive all the time.

But being positive doesn't mean you are blind to reality. Recognize weaknesses but don't bash them, build upon them. If you don't know what your weaknesses are, you don't know what to improve.
It's a great mindset - but how do we apply it in the world of sports - specifically, from a FANS point of view?

I mean - if this team wasn't making the playoffs, we should only post positive threads that make a positive difference?

To me part of being a fan is showing emotion - whether it's excitement, frustration, joy, anger etc..

The one thing I find that could apply to what you're suggesting is ''staying clean''. (your ''sugar and salt'' analogy -- my dad use to say '' get more with honey than you do with vinegar '').

I have opinions, and sometimes when other posters don't agree with them, they make it ''personal''. They throw in mini-jabs, insults ... and then I become guilty in falling into that game.

I recall vividly the shellacking I got with my protest thread last year

The amount of insults I had to endure ...

(just kidding, it was all fun, otherwise I wouldn't bring it back up)

The Optimist Thread

The title says it all.

I just can't believe how people are so pessimistic.

I just couldn't bare to read the GDT when the game was at 3-3 and all these posters were claiming that the series was over.

And then again in the PGT, numerous posters have given up.

Well I, for one, still think we can win it.

2 main reasons :
-we play better away and 2 of the last 3 games are in Boston
-this team is at its best when they have their backs against the wall (remember last year, we survived 6 eliminations games in the first two rounds).

So I still believe! Who's with me?

(This is meant to be a positive thread, if you want to compaint or say we're doomed, there are plenty of other threads to do so)

I believe it's the playoff anything can happen and I will back my team until it's over.

people need to stop with their it's over comments

-''oh we win the first 2 games we will sweep them''
-''the team who will score the first goal in game 4 win the series''
-''the Habs can't win 3 games in a row in Boston''
......

the winner will be the team who win 4 game first anything can happen. The series is 2-2.

BELIEVE in your team it's the ****ing playoff

I remember other series when the Habs lost. The Canes, the Bolts, Bruins or Flyers.

They actually played bad back then. Really bad.

Not this series. In this series they only played really badly one period in game 3. The rest was great effort, great hockey with some bad luck.

Even if they lose in 6 I can't be angry at my Habs - they gave all they could and the hockey gods were not kind.

Go Habs Go!

Well ok. I guess they'll be merge eventually then.

But I just thought that given the dramatic increase in negativity since tonight's game, a thread was needed.

Edit : merged already! that was quick.

When we expect them to lose....they don't. Okay, not ALL the time, but often. The series is still on. And like I said before, enough with the momentum BS. We HAD momentum at 2-0 and guess who lost it.....They are able to lose it as well. It only takes a shaky Thomas, and Price making a difference.

People have such a short term memory.

What good does it do to win 2 series after being down 3-1 one year, when people act like you've already lost a 2-2 series the year right after?

They played well against the Flyers in 08 and still got their ***** handed to them in 5. I was proud of that team because they got sunk by unlucky bounces and unsustainable shooting percentages from the Flyers.

I'm more upset at the lack of killer instinct. You can not be mad all you want, but the fact is we squandered 3 leads tonight to prevent us from taking a 3-1 series lead (thus probably winning the series in the process). There is still time to redeem themselves, but this will be a choke job if they lose the series. Obviously not as bad as Boston last year, but not good regardless.

True. Boston maybe like Montreal at home, they are going to try and play mistake free hockey to make sure they don't lose at home and go back to Montreal down 3-2. When you try to play mistake free, you make mistakes.

The Habs are back to under dogs, hopefully they play well and relish that role again.

And Thomas has been shakey the whole series, his luck of pucks bouncing or Habs not getting to them has to end sometime, Price hasn't had he same luck.

Habs need to get to the net and make traffic, make life miserable for the small goalie and get those loose pucks.

brutal blow to our psyches. can't blame anyone for being upset, but we know certain things:

we can score on thomas
we can win in boston
we just about surprise everyone

let's just get through the next two days and find out what we have
Go Habs Go! Don't stop believing.

Carey Price is not a choker! I refuse to believe that all that talent and calm, cool demeanor is just going to evaporate like Luongo. Price is going to stand tall, he has to!
