Heard Melrose on the radio yesterday, and while I'm usually not a big fan of his analysis, he made an excellent point about that game: Rangers stopped attacking in the 3rd period and that freed the caps D-men to get more involved offensively.

He also said "no way" that Torts would want them to stop attacking and so he was basically putting it on the players for going into fall-back mode which let the caps back in the game.

I've said many times this year that I am not a fan of the "collapse & block shots" strategy, but it's tough to argue with what works as our record with the lead going into the 3rd would indicate. I guess it just caught up to us.

I've also said that we have limited resources/talent (especially with Cally out) and that teams in the east had figured out that we are essentially a one-trick-pony. The playoffs are tough because the caps know exactly what we will be throwing at them every game, which means our only real weapon is "hard work".

I still think we can win in DC.

So Melrose is insinuating that the Rangers took it upon themselves to play defensive hockey and not listen to the coach in the third?

I don't buy that at all.

She made one shot.

Then she look up at the crowd and raised her arms as if to say..."let hear it". Then she took a couple other shots from further back but missed...but she was close.

Yeah, and he was saying that with his "as a coach, I know these things" attitude, not really based on any true insight about Torts OR the players. So....

Still, I thought it was a good point about their D jumping in in response to our lack of attack.
