Sometimes you can understand a suspension being extra long because there was no penalty called in game (like Pronger-Holmstrom), but this time he did get the penalty. You're telling me Ruutu's hit was as dangerous as Stoll's?

I normally defend the front office on suspensions. I was all for 2 games for Ryan, and more for Pronger's stomp. I was fine with Pronger's suspensions in 2007 (even kind of thought he should get an extra for the 1st one). But this really just floors me. But Giordano is still dumb.

I'm not even sure how Erat got that badly hurt on the hit.
Someone mentioned somewhere that Erat has chronic back spasms, which is where I'll bet the injury is. I can't make out any contact to the head, considering all the awful camera angles we've been given. I've seen it from the Nashville feed when it happened, NHL on the fly last night, plus during an intermission report on VS today, and I'm yet to see an angle that wasn't taken from the other side of the ice. Nobody seriously has a close-up?

Pretty simple equation:

If Erat gets then Ruutu gets suspended. No matter where or how the hit happens. Ruutu's track record is to blame for that.

Also, you know that the Predators made sure to make the announcement that Erat is ruled out for tomorrows game before the hearing happened to sway Campbell to favor a suspension than not.

New Colin Campbell rule-

If you hit someone it is a penaly. If a Duck hits someone it's a suspension. The game of hockey will be a sissy game with calls like this.

Where was Campbell with the knee to knee hit on Bobby Ryan with less than 5 seconds in the game. No action by the league, but a .3 second late hit is a suspension. Absolutely ridiculous.

The penalty wasn't even called by the referee. who was a few feet away and who was lookig directly at the play. The linesman called it after Erat laid on the ice. What a B-S call.

Meh I'm sure it's just karma. Ruutu has done plenty of stuff he should probably be suspended for. And it's not like he was going to be dressed next game anyways. Still pretty lame by the discipline committee.

Raffi Torres = 0 games.

Yes, this makes so much sense.

well it obviously wont be for shooting

This really is a joke though, if they suspended every player for that hit we'd be watching AHL Hockey.

So since this is a one game suspension in the playoffs, this means it's about 3 in the regular season? So every hit of this type is going to be 3 games in regular season from now on? Going to run out of players.

Purely reputation suspension and you really have to wonder what the hell goes on in the NHL head offices.

I guess the topline players should wear different kinds of shirts/helmets so bottom liners could see you can't hit them. Right NHL?

The element that I love about NHL is loosing it's grip after stupid decisions like this

Hockey is physical game and sometimes people get hurt. This suspension was just because Erat got hurt and Ruutu was the name on the shirt.

NHL hockey where are you going?

I will raise my glass tonight for former National Hockey League. Rest in peace.

The day has come, when IIHF leagues would actually be tougher and NHL more pussier. This is sad day. Clean hit and suspension...

This decision continues the arbitrary approach of the NHL to discipline. If the league does not adopt a reasonably consistent policy it will never get its message through to the players as to what is and what is not acceptable. Instead, the application of discipline is so uneven that it encourages dirty play, since most times the player gets away with an inappropriate play without discipline.

As of right now the rule seems to be, if a star player gets hurt there is a suspension, unless the player doing the hitting is a star, in which case it was a hockey play and there is no suspension.

Even I didn't think this was suspension worthy. I blame the NFL for all of this. I understand headshots are dangerous, but this has gone a little overboard.

I'm not surprised seeing that Campbell is a complete Anti-Duck. He gives Jaarko Ruutu 1 game in the playoffs for the same hit as the given out to Lubo Visnovsky by Doug Murray.

trawling through the garb that is this suspension, wondering how the hell it is even one. I start thinking about previous incidents.

1 specific one I think of is gaustad on Getzy. Now, I along with others thought there should have been a supension there, it was a late hit/ interference, yet no punishment. Getz was out a few games and was limited when back due to a broken nose and fish bowl he had to wear

now, 2 years (right time??) on, something similar happens, yet there is a suspension?????

maybe if rutuu had gone crawled off the ice pretending to be hurt he might have got away with it???

oh well, as randy says, we live by the league, and move on. Lets hope we have bobby in beast mode and use this as motivation and show people what the ducks hockey and playoff hockey is all about!!
