Win or lose, let's try to find the silver lining in the Habs' 10-11 season.

Regardless of what happens in this series and the rest of the playoffs, What are some of the positive things you saw from this year's team?

There's a couple of things that come to mind for me right away. The first is PK's slow and steady development on his way to becoming one of the best defencemen in the league. Rookie blunders and all.

The second thing is, of course, Carey Price's performance this year after all the boos in the pre season and the challenge of taking over for Halak after his unbelievable performance in last year's playoffs.

Oh, and after this year is over, Gomez's contract has 2 less years on it from the time he joined the team.

Surviving without Gorges and Markov is a huge accomplishment. Thats how good PK AND Price has been all year.

1. PK proving he is a star and top pairing defenceman
2. Carey Price proving Gainey and Goat made the right move
3. Max Pacioretty finally showed he can be a top 6 (or 3) forward
4. Doing so well without Markov and Gorges all year

Awards:
Price tied for the league lead in wins for a goaltender.
Price finished third in the league in shutouts, with 8.
Team is in the playoffs, without key players.

Wait, we're in the playoffs still with a series tied at 2-2. Why are we trying to find a silver lining here?

I think they are fairly obvious this year.

The habs have made it and been very competitive without two of their most important d-men in markov and gorges.

Pacioretty seems to have figured things out at the nhl level and is coming into his own

Subban has been thrown into the fire due to the season ending injuries on D and responded about as well as anyone could have hoped for.

Price has been nothing short of elite this year

The Habs are on the upswing...

... but so is nearly every team in the NHL.

Anyway... how about a Game 5 win?

Silver lining implies we had a crappy season and though we weren't the best team in the league it was far from a crappy season.

96 points was the 2nd highest point total in a regular season in 17 years.

Eller is no longer a rookie and will get more playing time now that Martin mysteriously won't hate him anymore!

Making the playoffs with a center that eats 7.3M$ of our cap space, scoring 7 goals, 38 pts and -15.

I still don't get how this team got 96pts with almost everyone on offense having an off season. With 2 of our top D missing over half the season and having multiple shutouts against.

Pretty incredible. Kudos to Jacques Martin and his coaching staff and kudos to Pierre Gauthier for finding suitable replacements.

With that said, Habs in 6.

win or lose? If they win then there is no cloud in which to find a silver lining.

Besides the most important part of the season is yet to be played and it's over the upcoming games when we find out what this team is made of.

What is pretty incredible is guys just happy to make the playoffs every year, with a slim to none chance of winning the cup. Kudos to JM ? How about his 49-59 playoff record with no final app. in 16 + yrs.

How about happy to see real improvement and youth talent in the team? You don't go from stinking to cup contender in a year. It just doesn't work this way, no matter how much wishful thinking you put into it (with the exception of teams that sucked so much they got 3 top 5 picks in a row and suddenly they are out the top).

Anyway, as others said, no need for a silver winning we are 2-2 in the damn serie! Can people stop acting as if it's over? IT'S TIED!

We were up 2-0 going home ! B's aren't that good. We should have wrapped this up in 4 or 5 and had some rest going into the next series. We haven't been a cup contender in 17 yrs.And please don't overrate our youth...yet. We went down that road 3 yrs ago w/Higgins,SK,Komi,O'B,Lats etc.JM has basically rendered our youth meaningless now. ELLer and White sitting the whole 3rd? Eller was a force and White was causing havoc in the O zone

Positives?

Yes there are a number of positives that the Hbas have to build on for thre future.

Price, PK, Max P. (assuming he will be able to return to the level of his play, pre-injury), and to a lesser degree....Lars Eller.

Otherwise, the HABS entire organization is mired in mediocrity and I would expect they will remain there unless and/or until Jeff Molson becomes adamant about the Habs becoming a seriuos Cup contender.

Considering Pierre Gauthier's NHL record as a GM, I will be more than pleasantly surprised if he is able to build a true contender.

But..........a guy named Dale Tallon - from Quebec no less, just might jump at an opportunity to leave Florida and build the Habs into a contender as he built the Black Hawks into a Cup champion.

It's all up to what Jeff Molson wants.

GO HABS GO!

True, but before the firesale a couple of years ago we were stuck in deep ****. Hate him or not, Gainey put us back in contention. Gomer is (in hindsight) a ****** trade, but now we can look at the team and go "Oh okay we can play with the best and stand QUITE a chance."

You look at some of our younger players and you realize "Wow, we've got 5 of our forwards and 2 of our defensemen either rookies or young budding players. And they're a big part of where this team is right now. All that without any top5/lottery picks (Price being the exception, but we're not even mentioning goalies here). What about our Primers: Wiz, Gorges, Pleky and Kostitsyn? Yea AK was inconsistent, but when the team needed him this series (and at the end of the season), he played like a champ.

The team is going up-hill; they're moving up, but that improvement takes a few seasons and it isn't easy. Just because we made it to ECF last year doesn't mean this is the norm right now. It will be when we continue to add the right pieces, but not now.

There is no silver lining if they lose. This team/organization has been jerking us fans around for years.

This year is a preview of the next.....and i think we have seen a really great team coming together.

Habs got good and YOUNG talent.......and cheap for now!

Price is getting better and better
Pacioretty will grow into a power forward
Subban will grow into one of the best defenceman in the league
Eller will grow into a bigger version of Plekanec
Desharnais proved he can play in this league despite his stature
White also proved he's a grinder in the NHL
Weber still had something to learn but his getting better

Take these really young guy had up guys like:

Cammalleri 29 years old....still in his prime for 4 to 5 years
Plekanec 29 years old......still in his prime for 4 to 5 years
Gionta 32 years old......still got 2 to 3 really good year in front of him

Plus the younger which we didn't se that much but, in time, will help the team
Kristo, Leblanc, Tinordi, Palushaj, Schultz, Avstin, Nash, Engqvist

So this year for me is the beginning of a brighter future!!
