As I suspected he would, Fisher is making up in the playoffs for what was, by his standards, a mediocre regular season (likely impacted by a rumored shoulder injury).

Fisher has been very impressive for a few weeks now. Good hockey out of that line. Hell, good hockey out of the whole team really.

He now admits that he was playing injured, but was healthy the last couple weeks. No one has called the trade a mistake in quite some time...his play down the stretch and so far in the playoffs has erased any doubt.

woulds the preds have traded for him had Goc, O'Reilly and Lombardi been healthy?

Tough question to answer. Too many unknowns to really know. Would Lombardi play like a 1st/2nd line center? Would O'Reilly's points stay consistent and not drop off like it seemed to right before his injury? Could Goc actually lead a scoring line and get some work on the PP?

If the answers to ANY of these are no, I say we still trade for him. We just wouldn't have Halischuk or Geoffrion on the roster right now if a few of Goc/O'Reilly/Lombardi had been healthy.

Goc was healthy when the trade was made.

We'll see what it's like next year. One of Goc or O'Reilly should still be here, and Lombardi should, according to Poile, be ready to return as well.

I think it would have depended on whether Lombardi was playing as expected and where we stood in the standings.

if Lombardi had been playing like we thought, Goc had been healthy and we were in a solid playoff slot, I kinda doubt it, but thats a huge sting of "ifs"

In the above scenario, I think poile would have tried to obtain a veteran 2nd pair Dman at the deadline

Or maybe even someome else that didn't get traded but could have been had for our 1st. Just saying if we had been set at center he wouldn't have stood pat but would have had different priorities

In all honestly, so far, the trade and injuries have so far been for the best. Fisher was known to be a playoff closer and he's beginning to show that. Every good playoff teams needs a playoff assassin and Fisher may just be it. I just hope it rubs off on to Weber and Suter.

Fisher with the huge faceoff win in the last minute of Game Five, resulting in the tying goal that sent it to OT.

I think we should swap the titles of this tread and the SOB thread. SOB is the mistake, we need to praise Fisher.

Happy to hear Preds fans are pleased with the trade. Fisher is a class act.

As awesome as he's been for you offensively in the playoffs, he will be worth his weight in gold shutting down players/grinding it out in later rounds.

Good luck tonight Gents!

Have to say, I've never wanted to give another team a draft pick as badly as I want to give Ottawa our third tonight...

Truth betold I think a lot of Sens fans care more so about Fisher doing well, than recieving a draft pick.

Anyone who has known me for several years knows that I have long had a man crush on Weber, ever since his first call-up in 06. One never forgets their first, but the new exciting man crush feelings arise again with Mike Fisher. Just saying.

BTW I just want to say that I've always felt like Nashville and Ottawa have shared a lot of similarities over the years. Also in a slightly related story for some reason I remember back when Napster was still running like 10 years ago I downloaded a clip of Ottawa scoring (I believe) an empty net goal to clinch their first series win. The crowd went insane, and I knew one day we could do that. Of course this was in the playoffs right before the Preds' first season, so I knew it was far away (and hasn't happened yet 13 years later) but it just always made me wonder.

And they also have the only newer logo/jersey combo that rivals how awesome ours is.

Yeah I agree. Well at least let's remove the word 'mistake' because, well, we all know Fisher's name doesn't deserve to be next to that word.

Maybe the mistake was not trading for him a few years sooner.

This trade was well worth it, even before we won the series.

3rd rounder turns into a 2nd rounder now I believe. Enjoy Ottawa!

And that's as far as it goes, right? Surely it can't go to a first, right?

Actually I'm wrong...

Guaranteed 2011 1st
and
Conditional pick:
-2012 3rd round pick if we win round 1 (which we did)
or
-2012 2nd round pick if we win round 2 or more
