Did anyone finish last season saying, "Gee wiz, what we need is a good pitcher."?

We won the World Series with Hamels, Myers, Blanton and Moyer.

And, with a championship there for the taking last season, the Giants fed our dead offense breaking balls and pushed us out without much trouble.

I don't know if any championship is there for the taking in the second round. The Giants pitching staff also did the same thing to one of the best offenses in the league in the World Series.

I'd rather have Lee than Werth. Giants won the world series last year with pitching.

The Giants had alot better bullpen than the Phillies have this year. You can only really trust Madson, Contreras, and Bastardo. The good thing is that they have a few guys in AAA that could contribute out of the pen.

Another solid outing from Big Joe. Hopefully they can pick up a W in extras.

Also, glad to see Howard's in one of those funks again.

Whole team's in a funk. If it weren't for Howard's double yesterday we could still be playing that game. Would be a shame to waste a solid Blanton outing, but something tells me S.D. is due for a win at home against the Phils. I hope I'm wrong, but the general lack of offense and shakiness of specific Phils relievers not named Madson/Contreras makes for a bad combination methinks.

E: Love the dueling Let's go Phillies/Let's go Padres chants.

Aside from Polanco and maybe Victorino, you're right. I just hate how Howard will get into these funks were he strikes out in like 50% of his at bats.

Yea, I'm not really confident with Kendrick out there right now.

It kinda surprised me too. It didn't work as Howard got something to hit, although Ludwick had a shot at it.

E: Gettin' greedy sending Howard there I thought.

Way to make me look like an ass, Howard lol. Glad to see him make the Padres pay for not respecting his bat.

Nice Ryno, to bad he got thrown out though at the plate. The ball was hit to hard for him to score. But Raul is up next so you have to send him.

No Jose?

Hmm, 2nd game in a row they've brought in Mad Dog for the save. Maybe Contreras' saves were getting too Lidge like?

Whew. That swing scared me a bit. Kinda looked like how Howard hit his.

Anywho, I'm glad to be proven wrong. Thanks Phils. Howard with another 2 run game winning double is nice. And as much as that pitch that ended in a flyout to left to end the game was a bit of a mistake it's good to see Madson close 2 in a row. Good for his mentality, which seems to be his only hinderance to a possible full-time closer role.

They havent scored more than 4 runs in a game in two weeks yet they are 8-4 in that stretch.

Contreras wasn't going to keep the closing job. I'm still surprised they even named him closer with Madson healthy, because Madson's been the guy the past couple years when Lidge isn't, and it's not crazy to think they're looking at him as the closer next year.

Im pretty sure they said tonight that Jose is still the closer, he just wasnt available again. Keep in mind that Madson's agent is Boras.

I have to agree with the Jose being the closer and just unavailable the past two nights.

All Big Truck has done is go 5 for 5 in save opps, with a 0.00 ERA. I'm pretty sure he's still the go to guy for saves.
