Who's laughing now...? (Vancouver Sun)

Who's Laughing now at Toews and Hawks?

Kind of nice to see Vancouver's news media giving some kudos to the Hawks for stepping up...

... and also nice to read this little tidbit:
Quote:
"Then coach Joel Quenneville announced that hardnosed Brent Seabrook, half of the Hawks' top defence pair, wouldn't be dressing for Game 4 (or Game 5, as it has turned out), because of a concussion arising from a Sunday head hit by Canucks' Raffi Torres..."
... and then goes on to say: "Some -probably the same ones who will go to their graves swearing the Torres hit was clean and couldn't possibly inspire the Blackhawks to want to shove it to the Canucks where the sun doesn't shine -may call this purely coincidental."

Sounds to me like even bits and pieces of the Vancouver media saw the Torres hit for what it was. And can give Chicago the credit it deserves for these last two games.

Chicago needs only to play 2 more games, 1 at a time, with all their heart and soul. IF they can do that, they will advance. When they skate hard like they did in games 4-5 they can beat anyone in the league. It's when they think they can just show up, THAT'S what gets them in trouble.

STAY THE COURSE!

I saw an interesting article about the Canucks feeding off bottom feeders all year. It was kind of surprising. The Canucks actually had a losing record against teams that eventually made the playoffs, 17-13-7. That shocked me given they had 117 points. The Hawks, even while backing in to the playoffs on the very last day of the season, had a better record in the regular season against eventual playoff teams.

How did that happen? For starters - the Canucks played in the only division in hockey where only the divsion winner (themselves) made the playoffs. They also had a ridiculously good record against non playoff teams. That record was 37-6-2. So I'm not really dissing them, because the record against bottom feeders is quite a feet. That's what good teams do.

Seeing that, and seeing them cracking mentally once again - it's hard to imagine them winning the cup. Yeah I do think they still are likely to beat the Hawks. I hope not - but they do have 2 cracks at it. But I don't know that they will be getting by Nashville/Anaheim in the 2nd round, or Detroit/San Jose in the conference finals.

That's a winning record...albeit not by much.

It is amazing how quickly the local media has turned on the Canucks. Id like nothing more than to see the Hawks victimize Luongo for the next 2 games and send the Canucks packing.
If that happens, I think the Canuck fans will probably burn down Rogers Arena and the team would have no choice but to relocate to Seattle.

I'm glad I posted this article for the clips and pics it get, if for nothing else.

Bravo, Hawks fans. Bravo.

Their stats are hyperinflated. NW division this season was even worse than last year. They are 18-4-2 against NW.

The same thing happened to Washington last season. They were 19-3-2 against SE, and this season were just 14-7-3. And last season Capitals were only team in playoff from SE.

Excellent point. There's no coincidence that the last two presidents trophy winners were outstanding teams beating up on their own division. Add that the trophy for the best record in the league can instill a false sense of confidence and you've got a nice recipe for a playoff meltdown.
