I'm ok with this, I like how he gets the most out of his players.

Great news.

I don't think it's the Rangers' policy to release coaching salaries. I'm glad they extended him.

Out the window goes our chance at getting Mike Babcock!

I like that JT is returning.

glad you got re-upped John...

Once you get some talent this offseason, fix this powerplay!

If given the players, all coaches can succeed. Funny how that works. Not a knock on Torts.

Well, how many more players does a Boudreau, or a Julien, or a McLellan need?

I can't say that for certain after what I witnessed all season long.

And also, I'd love to get a coach who knows how to handle the lack of talent and injuries instead of using it as an excuse. Example, Dave Tippett seem to do just nicely this year.

Sather for not picking someone else.

What's Torts supposed to do? Bench him entirely(which I would've done anyway) and make boss look worse? Sather's the one to extend Torts, right?

Listen, I hate McCabe more than you could ever possibly imagine and I would've rather had Valentenko out there.
Not like he was a goon who could've played 1-2 mins total with nothing said...McCabe is a multi-million $$$ "veteran" who is "capable".

I blame slats 200000000% for yet another gaffe.
We might as well have kept Rozsival or Redden.

Yep, and also Dan Bylsma..

I'm pretty meh on Torts. Not sure why people think he did such an amazing job..

I think people just like to see a lot of blocked shots and don't care that other coaches did more with less..

I don't care if the GM trades for a guy and tells you he is going to help your power play. As a coach you have to realize when something isn't working. You have to try anything else. When your powerplay is 1 for 30 it is time to try something else.

McCabe is a traffic cone with a big shot who is an abomination at even strength. He no longer has the mobility to create his own shot and open up shooting lanes. Which is why 8 out his 10 shots from the point went into the opposing teams shin pads and out of the zone. The only thing McCabe can do is shoot a one timer off a perfect pass from a PP QB who has mobility. The Rangers don't have that. So McCabe became useless for us.

The fact that our brain trust decided he should be the one carrying the puck up the ice for us on the PP was equal parts hilarious and sad.
You have no idea how much I agree, but easier for us to say than someone with an expiring contract.

I'm very happy with this. While the Rangers haven't done much during his tenure, Sather has handed him a mixture of crap and youth, and was told to make it work. And that he did. He's worked this team to two playoff berths in three years, almost three. So with all that in mind he's done pretty damn well. IT'S Interesting to imagine what he could do with just a few more players with talent at key positions.

This was by far Tort's best year coaching with the Rangers. He showed patience with our youth, taught tem well and no matter how many times they slipped up, he put them right back out there.

I am happy with him being the guy to rebuild this team.

Torts got a team that was severely lacking on talent (and health) and got them to all buy into an effective system that worked in spite of those deficiencies.

For everyone who talks about committing to the youth movement, you have to understand that the coach for whom they play is a big part of that. You can't talk about staying course and change coaches every few years, it doesn't work that way.

Torts has been the biggest proponent of the youth movement that so many people here are in love with, and he deserves to stay.

Honestly he helped this team over-achieve to the max. On paper, we should even be in playoff discussions.

This is a joke, right? Are you honestly claiming that the team is headed in the wrong direction? This team won 44 games despite being devoid of talent. It's been two years...during which time we have parted ways with the aging veterans and rebuilt the core with youth. A few more pieces and this will be a team that is moving to the next level. Rome wasn't built in a day...and neither is a team that doesn't get top 3 draft picks.
