Flyers management has shown no willingness to improve there situation

I said this in another thread, I truly believe that the Flyers will trade Carter to a team so they can sign either Brzygalov or Voukun this offseason.

Really? Try Versteeg and/or Carle. Teams don't sign a player to a decade long extension just to trade them.

They also have no cap space.

Timmy Thomas might be available this offseason, with his value relatively high and only 2 years left on I could see the bruins letting him go for relatively cheap.

As long as you're ready to see at least one 5-hole goal every game, you'll be happy with Khabibulin.

why are the Flyers giving up Ranford for a player that becomes a UFA July 1st?

Since he did not report, his contract status is in the air, he may have to honor the 1 year deal. Nabby said as much in an interview the other day.

Wrong. Edmonton would sign the proposal before the ink dried. Dubnyk is ready to be a number 1, but Khabby prevents that because he's entitled to 40-50 games given salary and seniority.

Can't see Philly taking this deal, though it will be interesting to see how they answer a pretty obvious problem. Is UFA the answer, considering:

Bryzgalov is flaky. He folds like a tent in the playoffs and I don't see him being much of an upgrade over Bobrovsky. He is also not the type of guy you bring in as a mentor (was jettisoned out of ANH because he couldn't get along with his goalie coach).

Vokoun is the prize of the UFA goalies IMO. But what does it take to sign him? I can't see him accepting less than 4mil. Then there's the kicker - his UFA status. He turns 35 July 2nd. If you don't get him signed the first day of free agency, the deal becomes a 35+ contract. Can the Flyers sign another one of those deals already having Pronger's 35+ contract in tact for 6 more seasons?

If it meant getting the OP's deal done, I'd expand the deal to include Mac and Shelley.

To PHI: Khabby (3.75) Macintyre (.5, UFA this summer)

To EDM: Leighton (1.55) Walker (1.7) Shelley (1.1)

Works out to roughly the same salaries, though I realize Walker was buried in the minors.

If you guys would consider trading Carter and needed cap space, how about:

To PHI: Gagner, Petry, 19th overall

To EDM: Carter

Petry is our best D prospect and has 1 yr left on his ELC, Gagner makes 2.275, saving the Flyers 3 mil in space (if they keep Petry in the AHL to develop - which he could use).

Fair?

Your analysis makes lot of sense, but the Flyers do not really get to dump cap space getting rid of Walker and Leighton as they were both in the minors or LTR all year. Salaries the Flyers do not care about - they make money - but cap help they need in order to improve the goalie situation. Unless someone finds a way to get rid of Carle or Versteeg, the Flyers really do not have money for anything other than a question mark / patchwork / oh no not him replacement.

How about something like Veersteg and Clarke for Mason and Filitov?
First time I've made a proposal on these boards so cut me a bit of slack if the value is off either way.

Trade idea #1

To Flyers
G Nikolai Khabibulin (2 yrs left at 3.75 mil)

To Oilers
G Michael Leighton ( 1 yr left at 1.55 mil)
D Matt Walker ( 2 yrs left at 1.7 mil)

Oilers save salary in longrun and get rid of Khabibulin who has struggled as an Oiler. Leighton can serve as the #2 next year behind Dubynk and Walker as #6/7 dman

Flyers take a gamble given the increase in salary next season (500k Khabby makes more then Leighton/Walker duo) and the final year of his dea. Khabibulin has struggled this year but behind the Flyers D he may just find his game again as a #2 option for Flyers and mentor for Bobrovsky.

or

Trade idea #2

To Flyers
G Evgeni Nabokov

To Islanders
LW Brendan Ranford

Flyers pick up a cheap mentor to serve as #2

Islanders pick up a good LW prospect who is years away but would add additional depth to there already good prospect pool

Thoughts?
Don't know why you would trade for Khabi (always injured now) when you could probably sign a twilight Vokoun for about the same money this off season and have a more reliable goalie...

I think the Flyers should trade Carter to Phoenix for Bryzgalov.
