I want to know what you think your Roster will look like next season. What is likely?
I wonder cause I want to know how many $$ is left for a Goalie if Bob is 1 of them and Leighton again in the A.
Cap may be 62.2 next season.
I've said before that I could see them keep Powe, Nödl and Carcillo and have guys like Read, Wellwood and Holmstrom fight it out for the last forward spot (this means not resigning Leino or Zherdev).
Something like this perhaps:
Powe-Richards-Giroux
JvR-Carter-Read
Hartnell-Brière-Versteeg
Carcillo-Betts-Nödl
Shelley
We'll keep our top 5 defenders, Bartulis has a cap-friendly enough contract to stay on as the #7 guy.
Pronger-Carle
Timonen-Coburn
Meszaros-?
Bartulis
Bobrovsky is back and Leighton has a contract as well, but I hope they plan to sign another goalie as well. Problem is, with this setup I think we'll have about 2.5M to sign that #6d and a goalie. Maybe a guy like Theodore? He's been pretty good as a backup in Minnesota I think.
X - Richie - JvR
Hartnell - Briere - X
Roo - Carter - X
Nodl - Betts - Powe
Insert Reed and Holmstrom in two of those spots. Carcillo, Versteeg, Zherdev are gone (though maybe keep Z if his head is finally on and he stays cheap enough). I am not a huge fan of Leino. Shelley is riding pine/out the door, we need hockey players.
Pronger-Carle
Kimmo-Coburn
Mez-Syvret/Gus/Bart<---- We need someone we can count on and actually play more than 7 minutes a game in the playoffs.
Syvret/Gus/Bart
Bob
Boosh
Not many changes. Bob gets a second year of getting bigger/stronger/faster. Boosh is the kind of guy I want as a backup, and I want him here.
If Lappy comes back, oh man, things would be so good.
We NEED to trade Carter. I assume he doesnt have a no-trade clause on this new contract. He is wayyy overvalued in the current market than what he actually produces (especially in the playoffs.) We could get a top prospect and a solid third liner for him. And that would hopefully clear up cap space to sign a goalie like bryz.
Get rid of Carle and Versteeg to free up cap to go after a goalie. I'm also open to not resigning Leino, getting a real 3rd line center, and rolling JVR-Richards-Giroux and Hartnell-Carter-Briere as our two scoring lines.
Goalies: Holmgren will wise up and make room for a legitimate goalie. A Bryz/Bob tandem would be perfect.
Forwards: I'd like to see Leino re-signed (for cheap) and Versteeg and Zherdev gone. Carcillo and Powe could also go. If need be, trade Hartnell since JVR is making him expendable. Ideally, I'd love to see the return of Gagne and/or Handzus
Defense: I see it staying the same, except O'Donnell will be replaced with someone like Alberts.
I'm not going to worry about it till the season ends, however, I am happier with Versteeg in the playoffs than I was during the regular season. I think he and Richie are starting to play really well together so I don't have a problem keeping him.
i personally hope steeg stays unless he's being moved for a bonafide #1 goaltender. if it doesn't work out, we can always try to shop him at the deadline.

He has a no trade clause and he isnt overvalued in the current market. We could get more then a top prospect and solid 3rd liner btw... you have him undervalued.
I dont think you guys understand how valuable carter and richards are.
First off these guys are #1 centers for most teams in the league. Second they are extremely talented and very versatile.
But what makes them most valuable is their contracts. They are signed to pretty cheap deals. And 5 years from now they are going to be severely underpaid. Those contracts allow us to have about 3 mill extra in cap space right now, and five years from now you are gonna see centers like toews and stamkos making close to 9 million a year. Now richie and carter are no stamkos, but they are in the same vicinity as Toews. And toews is not worth 4 mill more than those players. We are in good cap shape for the future solely because of these two signings.

For the past two seasons it has been proven how valuable he is during the regular season, but not during the playoffs. Look at Briere, guy is clutch. This team has a two year window so IMHO Carter's true value to this team is that he is a valuable commodity on the open market and a team would be willing to offer up a significant package in return so this team can address the two glaring needs: natural winger to play with Giroux, I use Cole as an example, and another guy who can play with Richards and Versteeg would be a guy like Langebrunner or maybe even Chad Larose.
And you use Stamkos and Toews but also fail to mention that at some point you are going to have to also compensate JvR and Giroux.

His NTC does not kick in until the 2012 season: KNOWN CLAUSES: Full NTC (2012-13 through 2014-15); modified NTC (2015-16 through 2021-22)
Am I the only one who has been very impressed with Versteeg in the playoffs? I would like for him to stick around personally. I'm thinking:
Steeg-Richards-Z/FA (only if Z sticks for a reasonable price)
Hartnell-Briere-Leino
JVR-Carter-Roo
Powe-Betts-Nodl/Holmstrom
Pronger-Carle
Kimmo-Coburn
Mez-Syvret/Gus/Bart
Bob
Boosh (?)
Very similar.
I think Versteeg has been good as well. He's one of the few guys who are going to the net on a constant basis. Yes, he tries to go through 4 or 5 Sabres sometimes which is irritating, but overall I'd say he's been good. He's pretty solid on the pk as well. Him and Carter together could form a nice pair I believe to take away some time from the four guys we've been (over)using this year.
If we could get Z back for a good, reasonable price, I'd give up Versteeg in a trade and re-sign Z. I know Versteeg can be used on the PK, but honestly, I do think Z can make more of a difference than Versteeg... maybe. I know Nodl and Powe will be back.
