Maybe Bob will be that. Just needs a second chance.

His stats during the regular season are okay at best but Ilya Bryzgalov played like absolute garbage which is why phoenix got swept. So can someone PLEASE tell me why so many people want him in net for the Flyers? Because I honestly can't understand why.
Doesn't matter, Bryz is a better goaltender. Look at Bryz's career playoff statistics, he's great. Then factor in that he was playing behind Phoenix and against an insanely hungry Detroit team. Plus he's younger than Vokoun and is pretty good to have in the locker room from what I hear. Having another Russian goalie I think would also be important for Bob (who I'd keep as the back-up).

I appreciate everything Boucher and even Leighton did for the team, but I'm tired of the Flyers being the faithful organization. We threw that out when we traded Gagne. We need a number 1 goaltender who can win 35-40 games a year for us.

Think we could trade a 4th or so to the Isles for Nabokov?
He's better than Boosh and Leights, makes peanuts if the Isles succeed in tolling his contract, and he's Russian and could possibly be a great mentor for Bobs.
I know he's not a top ten goalie, but let's face it, the Flyers can't afford a Lundqvist with the cap and this core and knowing this organization, they're just looking for a goalie that can play well enough.

His form on that save was pretty good. He is at least as good as Leighton, and without goalie pads! Just think how good Ryder will be with pads!

No rebound into the slot, stick covering the five hole. I'd say his form was better than Leighton.

Here's the thing, two of those guys are just as likely to play like crap as they are to be stellar. Rinne is the only guy that's been consistently great, in the limited time he's been able to show that.

That is the state of goaltending today in the NHL. While all of the goalies are better than they were a generation ago, very, VERY few of them are consistently great anymore.

Looking around the league, I got Henrik Lundqvist as the only guy who I could trust 100%. In the 90s you had Brodeur, Roy, Hasek, Belfour, etc.

****, look at Luongo. The guy's the best goalie in the league, and must be an absolute mess right now. People want Cory Schneider? He just gave away game 6.

I could see where bryzgalov would be a good idea, considering he's Russian and would be a good mentor for bob. But would he come here? He's already showed unwillingness to play in Winnipeg because he'd rather move his family back to Russia instead of moving them so far away from Phoenix. Granted, Philly isn't nearly as cold as Winnipeg, but it's still across the country. I could see him going back to Russia if the yotes don't stay in the desert.

Also, I don't see why you'd sign/want bryzgalov over Tomas Vokoun. He's a few years older, but we don't need young. We have 2 highly touted young goalies who need developing under a good veteran. Sign Vokoun for 2-4 years. He'll command just as much as bryz, and he's much better IMO.

Out of Bryzgalov, Vokoun and Backstrom, I like Backstrom the most.
I don't think Minnesota will look to trade Bäckström, but if they do - and they accept that offer - I'd be thrilled. He's been one of my favourite goalies since he played for my team here in Sweden waybackwhen however, so I'm a little biased on him.

Nabokov is interesting. I haven't really kept up with that whole thing, but he signed a 570K contract this year I believe. I think the extended contract will be decided in arbitration, can't imagine it will be a substantial raise for him. He'd fit our salary structure, that's for sure.

It's a shame Holmgren didn't take a chance on Anderson at the trade deadline.

Isles weren't able to trade Nabokov. They would have had to put him back on waivers... (and possibly offer him back to Detroit first?).

I'd prefer Vokoun as a mentor to Bob over Nabokov, myself. Pretty much solely because he hasn't been making waves, like Nabby has.

I would love to hear what Pronger and O'd think of him. On the radio tonight, one of the sportsnet guys said "There is a reason Burke waived him in Anaheim. He didn't think he was a big game goalie". However, if you look at his history, especially in Anaheim....looks good to me.

However, I heard he is looking for top dollar which would take us out of the race anyway. And for those saying he would be a good mentor, he isn't coming for that. If we go Bryz/Vokoun they are the next 5 year plan!

No need for Bryzgalov of Vokoun. When it comes to bang for the buck its tough to beat Leighton. He just needs a full offseason and preseason under his belt to shine again

Do I detect the faintest, itsy, bitsy, tiny little bit of sarcasm? Although, he did have better numbers than Bryz this postseason.

We probably should have just gotten Roloson as a stop gap a couple of playoffs ago...but we couldn't because of the cap...

He's holding his own thus far with Tampa and not getting pulled as far as I'm aware

He was real solid this year once he was moved to Ottawa. I think things just went sour for him in Colorado. He was fantastic last year in the playoffs.

Neal's goal in OT was brutal, though. And the Pens aren't exactly an offensive powerhouse.

I could be wrong about this but I think the Isles have to offer Nabokov back in waivers if they are going to trade him.

Not if they tolled his contract for next season, but that's a huge IF.

Vokoun is a FA, let's make a run at the cup with Vokoun in 11-12.

Get Bryzgalov. One of the best there is and he won't cost us anything but money.
