Just saying...
we all make mistakes but i was just saying it because it would create a much more balanced defensive pairings that can provide both offense and defense.

Ehrhoff would be a VERY solid pick-up for this organization. The guy can play 22+ minutes in every situation and has a bomb from the point.

I would be interested to see if Vancouver attempts to bring him back and then tries to trade Bieksa(who I would also have interest in). Either way, the Rangers need to have another player back there who has experience and can play in any situation. Bieksa and Ehrhoff would be a mainstay on the Rangers PP with their skating ability and their shots.

The pack line was our best line all season long, and if they had a #1 line in front of them, they would have done even MORE damage during the regular season. Leave the pack line as is. If you cant trade Wolski with some picks to get another 1st round pick or a top line LW, then you try him on the wing with Richards and Gaborik. He has the elite skill and speed to play with them. This is where you really challenge him and see if he clicks for this team.

Wolski Richards Gaborik
Dubi Anisimov Cally
Hagelin Stepan Zucca/Avery
Feds Boyle Prust

Staal MDZ
Girardi Mcdonagh
Sauer V-Tank/Gilroy/FA

Lundqvist
Biron

With the defensive pairings switched up alittle, it allows us to play all 3 pairs evenly, along with getting good solid defense and having offense on the backend. If we play a team with say crosby or ovechkin then you can go back to putting Staal with Girardi. This is my take.

Wolski - Richards - Gaborik
Dubinsky - Anisimov - Callahan
Hagelin - Stepan - Zuccarello
Feds/Avery - Boyle - Prust
Extra: Feds/Avery

Staal - Girardi
McDonagh - Sauer
MDZ - Gilroy*

* - denotes player that could be supplanted via free agency or another player in the system

I liked your overall idea but fixed the lines as I'd prefer to see them. I think the defense doesn't need much tweaking - keep Staalsie and Girardi together, they seem to bring the best out of one another and McD and Sauer were above and beyond the biggest (positive) surprise out of this season to me in regards to our long-term success.

Callahan, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Stepan, Boyle, Prust all have to be a lock for me.

I'd like Feds back cheap, I'm sure Gaborik will be back, and I'd like to see Zucc perform season long.

Avery, WW, Frolov, Drury, Prospal, Boogaard I've prob seen enough.

Hagelin and other youngsters are welcome in my book and encouraged.

And the 4 d locks are Staal, Girardi, Sauer, and McD. Bottom two whoever they may be must step up and do somethig to impress.

Stay young and fast, thAts all.

I'd like Feds back for cheap. Not sure about Prospal.

I am convinced that Boyle will top out a 15 goals and I really think that was a fluke year, imo I don't think he looked very good the final 3rd of the year.
I think the jury is still out on Boyle, realistically this is his first season playing regular minutes...last off-season he worked on his skating this season he needs to add some weight and work on his conditioning, he looked like he lost a step towards the end of the season.

Goal scoring wingers...

Would LOVE to somehow acquire Loui Eriksson and/or Patrick Sharp. Not sure if they are possible, or what the cost would be, but I could totally dig Gaborik, Sharp, Eriksson, and Dubinsky being the wings on my top 6.

We don't have the cap space for that. Plus we still need a 1st line center. Gagne is an UFA. He's coming off of 2 bad seasons and had 2 injuries. Supposedly he's fine now. If we can get him at a steal price like 3 years 2.75-3.50 a year I'd do it. He's only 31 and when healthy he can score 30 goals. Also has always produced in the playoffs. The last thing we need is to sign an injury prone player for over 4.00 a year. If we get him for the right price it's a gamble. But that's what free agency is. It's gambling because you don't know how a player will play. Sather must be a horrific poker player

Sounds like another Frolov. Pass.

Please explain, because other than a short term low risk high reward deal, it doesn't at all.

Gagne is an awesome talent, but he could be the poster boy for Injury Prone.

If he ever wanted a Feds/Prospal like 1 year deal its a no brainer, but banking on him is too risky

That is EXACTLY to the letter what Frolov was supposed to be. Three mil may have been a little more pricey, but either way it was a short-term tryout hoping for a high reward with little commitment.

Edit: What other comparisons need to be made?

Current Options in UFA, excluding players that won't be worth it/won't end up as UFAs by July:

Erik Cole (26G/26A)
Jussi Jokinen (19G/33A)
Curtis Glencross (24G/19A) -- still hate him for his hit on Drury
Simon Gagne (17G/23A) -- in 63GP
Scottie Upshall (22G/12A)
Alex Tanguay (22G/47A)
Ville Leino (19G/34A)
Chris Higgins (13G/15A)
Nikolai Zherdev (16G/6A)

I would love to have Loui Eriksson with every fiber of my being, as he's one of my favorite non-rangers, but unfortunately Dallas sees him as a huge part of their future, and rightfully so. He's an incredible talent, and it's going to take beyond too much to get him in blue.

3 years is too many IMO. If he does turn out to be another Frolov then we're stuck with him for 2 extra seasons; at least with Frolov we only gave him a year deal. I'll be fine with giving Gagne a one year deal, but not more than that.

I would sign any of those guys, save for Zherdev and Higgins, to a one year flyer. I'm a big fan of those types of deals, even though they usually don't work out that great. Frolov didn't hurt us at all this year, we can afford to bury 1 year deals if they're less than satisfactory.

I'm a big fan of Jussi Jokinen but I'm not sure it's a match for both sides.

have to agree, i'd absolutely take a one year risk on Gagne. However, past that with his history I'd have to say no.

He's one of the main players I want to take a shot on. Jussi has incredible skill, and the last 2 seasons he's finally been able to put it together, even on a pretty marginal team in the Hurricanes.

If he makes it to July 1, I'd be very interested in seeing what it would take to bring Leino to NY. He may not be the best sniper but the kid has gotten better and better. He's got skill and has produced in the playoffs. He could be a good compliment on a line with Gaborik. Or maybe he'd mesh well with AA or Steps...

I like the guys game and would like to see him in NY.

Jokinen would be a great pickup. He's a great shootout guy too with goalscoring skills on PP/EV.

I'm a fan of Leino too.

As the avatar signifies, I'm a Dallas fan. Suffice to say as has been mentioned, Eriksson is untouchable. He's young, dynamic, and his contract is a STEAL.

Erhoff is going to get way too much this offseason because the d-man pool is pretty thin, I hope the Rangers stay far away.

I'd rather bet on Markov having a bounceback year away from Montreal then either Erhoff or Kaberle.

Wouldn't mind bringing in Jussi Jokinen as a cheap replacement for Wolski if he gets traded. Think JJ fits this team much better anyways.
