Reports: No suspension -- or hearing -- for Richards

Miller is a tool...

Quote:
The hit that Flyers captain Mike Richards delivered on the Sabres' Tim Connolly in Sunday's Game 6 will not warrant a suspension, or even an NHL disciplinary hearing, according to reports from Craig Custance of the Sporting News and Nick Kypreos of Rogers SportsNet.

The Flyers likely would have heard about a hearing last night if it were scheduled for today.

Connolly was rammed into the boards headfirst from behind by Richards with a little over 6 minutes left in the second period.

Connolly, who has a concussion history, was helped from the ice and did not return. Richards was given a 2-minute boarding minor, which put the Flyers down two players for 1 minute, 10 seconds, and down a man for the other 50 seconds.

Richards more or less shrugged off the news at the Flyers' media availability on Monday afternoon in Voorhees, N.J.

"Obviously it's good to play, there's no doubt about that," Richard said. "I'm not worried about that, I'm worried about helping the team out and getting one by their goaltender [Tuesday]."

The guy Richards plans to 'get one by' on Tuesday night in Game 7 voiced his displeasure of the hit on Monday back in Buffalo as the Sabres prepared to fly to Philadelphia.

"I'm still upset," Sabres goalie Ryan Miller told the Olean Times Herald on Monday in Buffalo. "The guy who was complaining the most about how we were getting away with murder has delivered two of the dirtiest hits in the series Ė a blatant elbow to the face, which is something the league has said theyíre trying to take away, and driving Tim Connolly head-first into the boards. Itís wasnít a just a hit; it was a push. It was blatant. Itís not lost on me that heís a hard competitor. Richards wants to win. But obviously that was reckless."

Kaleta

What a dope...

Quote:
BUFFALO -- If the Flyers win this pulsating series, they may thank Buffalo's Patrick Kaleta for the inspiration.

During Sunday's game, Kaleta reportedly made comments to Danny Briere and Scott Hartnell about their divorces.

All Briere would say was that a Sabre "crossed the line" with "personal" comments, and that it gave him motivation.

Briere had two goals, and Hartnell tied the game in the third period as the Flyers won in OT, 5-4, to force a Game 7 Tuesday.

Good, he didn't deserve it. It was the right call.

Did anyone hear the interview with Miller. The dude is such a crybaby. Someone post the vid if you have it.

He said something to the effect of, "If Richards is complaining about the Sabres getting away with murder on the ice, then Richards just got away with mass murder."

What a joke.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned that painfully obvious elbow shot against Versteeg that went uncalled?

Mass murder? does that mean Mike Richards hurt multiple on that hit or just one?

Should we call him Mike the Ripper?

THN:s columnist is a meathead, have anyone read his brilliant piece of journalism on the "scandal that Richards isn't suspended"?

The Sabres had a 5-on-3 for like 1:13 or something in the 3rd period with a lead, and a chance to end their opponents' season. If they would have scored there, Richards wouldn't have a Game 7 to be suspended for.

The hockey news has always been a bit of a pain in the ass in that regard. The other thing is the anti-fighting stance going back to when Steve Dryden was in charge, he was on a one man crusade to get fighting out of the game and was just disgusted with it.

Rumor has it that Miller actually called Richards Hitler and referred to Richards' hit as mass genocide and a holocaust.....it was edited by the censors due to the ADL taking umbrage...

Actually, 2nd period and a tied game. The whole game blends together at this point. Still though...5 on 3. Sabres had a chance to take control of the game, the game was there to win, and they couldn't get it done. They'd be less concerned if Richards' season was over.

hahahahaha the interview was sad. He wasn't even asked about the hit. He awkwardly segwayed into it. Sounds like hes trying to deflect the loss onto something else. I'm confident the boys will walk all over these Sabres tomorrow night.

If the Sabres are more worried about what Mike Richards has done in this series, or will do tomorrow night then they are in trouble.

Lol @ Miller. He sounds like such a baby in that interview. I hope that this has the Sabres thinking about revenge more than scoring goals.

Usually you can play the "they asked him, what is he supposed to do?" card.

always take anything ken campbell or any other of those unabashedly-pro-canucks (to the point that it's sickening) "journalists" with a grain of salt.

I said it in the GDT and I'll maintain it here. It was NOT an elbow. Myers completely missed Versteeg with his right side (and his elbow was tucked as he came by Versteeg anyway). Versteeg just clipped Myers upper body as he tried to step around the blow, resulting in the awkward fall.

not surprised by this, mike richards is a dirty player that boards players on a nightly basis while swinging his elbows around mercilessly, targeting vulnerable players like kaleta and connolly. but, the NHL loves the flyers so he gets away with murder.
