The title can be about our dorming adventures.

I'm actually gonna go there next year. Aren't most of the people there asian/brown?
Yeah but not even that, it's mostly like a pre-med and engineering school (of course i'm going there for history or poli. sci so i'm gonna be in a neglected major ) so I don't see how it's such a party school.

Are you planning on going to law school afterwards?

Yeah that's the plan. I either wanna do something with law, politics or be like a college professor, but that can always change and law school can always help with anything.

There's this interesting history major thing available that's a 5 year program and you also get certification to teach by doing it, so that's also something I might look into.

I'm not dorming, decided to stay home. Gonna commute to Baruch every day. Down the line in college I might move into an apartment though.

sounds good. with the cheap tuition at SB debt shouldn't be a problem with the teacher's salary.

I was planning on going to upitt, but those ****ers didn't give me financial aid, so i'm stuck at for now. i'll check out transfer options next year though, especially if they do triples in our dorms

Baruch is easy to get to as well via train. I used to work there. I commute daily to my school now in downtown brooklyn. Its not too bad.

Yeah, it's not bad at all. Take the Q from Ave U to 14th street than the R one stop. Wouldn't take more than an hour in a worst case scenario. I don't mind the train either so it works out well. If I ever get lazy and don't feel like going all the way back to Brooklyn I could just take the PATH across to Hoboken and spend the night at my dads. It all works out well.

Yeah, worst case scenario i'll just transfer if I really dislike it so i'm not really sweating dorming at SB, but I'm just a little nervous about it.

Nope, but i'm really confused about the differences between the different dorm blocks are and I need to fill out my preference form tomorrow.

Again, not something i'd expect from what i've seen of SB.

Going to be a very interesting experience, to say the least.

I dormed at Wharton for only a week but it was absolutely horrible. I realized then that dorming is definitely not for me

Doesn't it go by which undergrad college you choose? There's really no difference between them, all it really does it decide which basic 102 seminar you take, and they try to like make a community out of the dorms and stuff. After the first year or so, it doesn't make a difference which one you are. I always liked H quad or Mendelsohn the best, was the closest to my classes.

SB has a lot better campus activity/party scene/etc then it did like 4-5 years ago. There's a lot of "bros" now, and if that's not your scene, then you should probably steer clear of the frats, but there's a lot of cool stuff now, like concerts and events, and the sports teams aren't half bad either.

I really liked SB, much more than Hofstra which is where I transferred from. Probably the best part is still how little I paid to go there, but it was enjoyable. The guidance department/signing up for classes is still the worst thing in the world there, second only to the food.

Yeah, the different undergrad colleges are all different though apparently and i'm not sure which is which, and I want to dorm in the co-ed one . I figured it's not a big difference depending on which one you picked, I just need to figure out which one has the best people.

And yeah i've gone to a couple of the free Stony Brook concerts, good stuff. What did you major in, btw? Part of the thing that kept me hesitant about SB was that I figured my major choices would be sort of second tier.

I lease a house with a bunch of kids now as a sophomore, but freshman year in the dorms wasn't bad at all. My roommate was from Venezuela and he was the chillest kid ever. We got along great.

I think for most people your roommate makes or breaks your experience in the dorms.

I dunno, i've always been big into degrading myself in front of a group of people in order to feel accepted.

Just screams self-esteem, doesn't it?

I can't stand when people make assumptions about fraternities based on what they heard from "their friend who was in a fraternity" or what they've seen in movies or TV shows.

The truth is, you don't know anything about fraternities if you have not been a part of one. They offer a whole lot more than what the stereotypes say.

My fraternity volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club every week, more than half of us won awards for outstanding GPA's, and we had a large presence in the student government.

And yeah, on the weekends we partied a lot and we may have had a rough pledge process, but we knew the difference between being serious and having fun.

I know that some fraternities are d-bags, but don't lump all fraternities into one category just because of a few bad ones.
