Well, hard to play that game. If we have Markov and Gorges, we don't acquire Wisniewski and Sopel, most likely. Still, certainly having Markov would be a huge difference maker, wouldn't be playing Subban + Gill 25 minutes a night. Having Pacioretty would be great, too. But it doesn't mean Spacek stops playing poorly or Gomez/Gionta/Plekanec score more, necessarily.

All in all, don't know, and honestly injuries are a huge determinant of playoff success. Gotta stick to the cards you're dealt, so Gauthier's avoidance of any *large* deadline deals was for the best.

they are all character guys with heart that give us more depth and contribute to a more well rounded game. we'd be a better team with them in the lineup.

on paper, yes, we'd stack up better. on the ice, i'm not so sure. no guarantees. we've already exceeded expectations without them. more players have stepped up to fill their voids, their absence has given time for others to shine.

we have dead weight on our team and need to shed that before we can consistently compete year after year for the big prize, instead of just squeaking by and hoping for miracles.

If the Pocket and Beliveau were both 45 years younger, and Lafleur 30 years younger, and if the Habs could find them roster spots under the salary cap, and if Steve Penney had two more playoff sutouts left in him,
and if Orr and Esposito, and hodge were 30 years younger and could squeeze onto the bench beside Horton and Lucik,
would we win?
IF.............THEN...................

We lose Markov for whole year, Gorges most the year and Pacioretty down the stretch and finish with 96 points. That is a 105 point team
I like Max as a much as the next guy but to brand him our top forward is ridiculous. Certainly has the potential to be up there but we have no idea how his performance would be long term or in the playoffs.

Comparing him to Bergeron is also not very fair, at least impact on team wise. Marchand is probably a better comparison. Remove Marchand from the Bruins line up these playoffs and the outcome would be very different.

if we don't lose Markov, we don't trade for Wiz. If we don't lose Gorges, we don't trade for Sopel and Mara.

So yeah, we would be better with Markov and Gorges.

Ifs and excuses are for losers. We did damn well w/o Markov vs. the defending champs last year. And got 6th seed w/o him, compared to 8th last year. Gorges is a 3rd pairing d-man.What if the B's had their 90 pt playmaker (Savard) setting up Lucic and running their PP. Pens don't have Malkin and Crosby.Pronger is hurt. Roy is hurt.Zetteburg also. What a bunch of whiners here.

Way to down-size a guy that was part of the two man duo that shut down Ovechkin and Crosby, back-to-back.

Boston's missing Savard and I'm sure they have other injuries too so the argument really is moot.

As for us, the guy I think we miss the most is MaxPac. Gorges is great defensively and Markov is brilliant offensively but we can compensate for this with the guys we have now. The biggest difference is that Subban would play 22 mins a game instead of 27.

MaxPac offered us a different dimension and he was really on a hot streak. He's big and skilled and we could really use that up front right now.
