now that he will definitely want out, does either work on the surface? i lack that drive to create a highly complicated deal involving picks and what not.
Why does Luongo "definitely want out"? If it's because the Panthers are taking him to arbitration, I think you're off base. They are doing it to make sure that Luongo will be on their roster come next season, he'll be getting the salary he deserves.

I think Keenan would want Eshe + Carter from Philly...
Folrida would need a cheaper #1 goalie that could start right away
You may want to change the thread name. You have it as "Luongo Proposals" and not only does it not include Luongo, it doesn't even include the Panthers.
As far as the trade goes, I don't think the Wild would want to do it. That said, it'd probably be a hassle for the Flyers, as Nittymaki is their backup this year and I'm not sure of Gaborik's contract situation.

"The Panthers have elected to walk on thin ice with their franchise goaltender.
After two days of fruitless negotiations with Gilles Lupien, the agent for Roberto Luongo, General Manager Mike Keenan said Thursday he had filed to take Luongo to arbitration.
The move clearly upset Luongo, who called it "disrespectful," and could move him closer to choosing unrestricted free agency when he becomes eligible in two years. "

They were two seperate deals, both for Luongo, straight up.
Luongo is going to be hurt by the new pad restrictions more than most goalies, plus he is not going to come cheaply. In fact, I'm not even sure the Flyers can afford him under the cap, unless his asking price is under 3 mil which I highly doubt.
Assuming Florida locks Jovo up long-term and Vancouver signs Luongo before the deal gets completed. I believe that Jovo would become the captain for the Panthers.

That could be the worst proposal ever made on these boards. Congrats
Vancouvers first would be almost like an early second with those 2 players and Luongo is much better than Cloutier.
I love Jovo but think Bouwmeester's potential is much higher and cheaper for the time being
Fair enough, but here's the rationale for me...
If Jovo signs a three year deal, both Jovo and Bouwmeester are both slated to hit UFA at the same time (age then becomes more or less irrelevant here other then development during the next three years). Also, Florida "seems" to be making a playoff push, and require a #1 defeseman, which Jovo is and Bouwmesster isn't. The Canucks make this swap only because they require the cap space to sign Luongo. Given the opportunity to switch Jovo (signed for 3 years) for Bo right now, the Canucks probably pass but they have Ohlund and thus have a spare #1 defenseman. All in all, Florida get a #1 d, Van gets a #2/3 and some cap space.
Luongo is the most valuable part of this entire deal and is only tradable because Florida fans seem to think he is. The Canucks need a goalie that can take them deep into the playoffs and thus trade a capable #1 (yes Cloutier is capable, he has the 2nd most wins over the last 3 years) and a 1st rounder for what they hope will be a goalie who is better under pressure (Luongo). Cloutier gives Florida a good goalie during the regular season who might be okay if he ever stays healthy for the playoffs.
This trade pretty much balances $$$ wise, and in my mind addresses some needs for both Florida and Vancouver.

Oh the media...gotta love them!
Lupien, Roberto's agent, also said he asked the team to seek a trade, which could have been the legs under the Montreal-Florida trade rumours. Lupien has also said that Roberto should be paid like Thorton, Khabby, and the top players in the league. Then he later says the Panthers wouldn't agree to the 5 year, 4 million per deal he offered (Florida offered 3.5 per), thus contradicting himself.
Roberto's going no where, for this year at least. IMO Keenan and owner Cheapskate Cohen want to get Luongo for a cheaper salary this year, then lock him up long-term next year. Roberto's going to get his money, it's just a matter of when and Keenan not pissing him off to the point where he does want to leave in 2 years as a UFA.
