I wouldn't want to be the first guy he lands a punch on... then again its questionable whether he will ever land a punch in a grapple heavy sport.

He seems to just hug people anyway so he should be fine.

It will all depend on who they match the guy up with. Not sure sure if he has any kind of a wrestling or grappling background, but one thing is certain, and that is he doesn't like to get hit. I would imagine he will try to get in close and tie up his opponent but who knows?

Lots of NHL enforcers past and present have tried thier luck in the cage. John Mirasty, I believe Yablonsky...Sasha Lakovic etc.

He's going to fight some cans, so who cares? He'll make some money and put on a show for the fans.

Agree with this. You can't start an MMA career at 39. Plus those guys are in incredible fighting shape. Going three 5 minute rounds isn't quite the same as fighting a guy for 20 seconds and then having it broken up as soon as it goes to the ground.

He's not making a big mistake. At all.

Brash is a professional athlete. Even at 39, he's more in shape than most heavyweights out there. Anyone who has watched heavyweights in MMA knows that they tend to gas out after the first round other than the best guys in the game.

Brash will be fine. He will be fed some ****** cans to feast on and have some fun.

No way dude, he's gonna get wrecked. I'd put him against Big Country and he'd get wrecked.

Too FAT

Dude's gonna get his butt kick.

James Toney is a full fledge heavy weight boxer and only a couple of years older than Bashear. When he stepped into the MMA ring with Couture, who was 47 at the time, it wasn't even close.

James Toney went in and fought Randy ****ing Couture. You realize there is a little bit of a difference in caliber of opponents that Brash is going to get, right? Brash is going to get a guy who is either just starting out or is just plain terrible. Not one of the best of all time.

Couture, even know, would beat the vast majority of HWs out there on the regional circuit (outside of the very best of prospects).

There is no comparison to what Toney got (who called out the UFC and Couture) and what Brash will be getting.

We are talking about a promotion that is less than the level of KOTC or other various regional promotions.

Brash will be done the second his opponent gets him on the ground.

Except I highly doubt they will have him fight anyone with a semblance of ground skills. You do realize not everyone in MMA has any game on the ground, right?

They are not going to book Brashear in a fight to lose. They will try and find him a can with little to no ground game or wrestling.

Question: Do you even watch MMA? If you do, do you follow regional MMA?

If you did, this would not be foreign to you.

Brashear has been playing in the LNAH, which is basically MMA on skates. If he gets a fellow scrub he'll be fine.

I would assume they'd do this for charity, too. Probably donate his winnings to a charity of his choice or something.

Why bother doing it if they are just going to baby him?

EDIT: It would make more sense if it was a charity....

I trained with Aaron Riley for a while (youtube him). I think you are severely underrating the knowledge and skill required to be a decent fighter. Having a ground game is a must.

What would you say if someone decided to start a hockey career at 39? How is this different?
