That's my point. There are wings fans already arguing and basically trolling this thread. Why are they doing that here when there is a main board thread and a thread in their own forum to do so?

They are not trolling, they are engaging in a civil discussion. A debate is not the same thing as trolling. Hence they are welcome.

I think Niemi's play will be a big factor. But I think Howard's play will be even more scrutinized. If he plays like he did last year against the Sharks, this series is over in 5 again, possibly 4. Howard's the only goalie I can really remember that stunk it up against the sharks in a series.

Maybe Aebischer (sp?) or Turek way back in the day. or another rookie Detroit goaltender long ago.. yeah, maybe they played worse. lol

The big questions in my mind are:

1) Will Niemi play well. If yes, we'll win, if no, we'll lose. Simple as that.

2) Will Boyle play like Boyle should?

3) Will our best players show up.

That's it. There really is no point in debating with the Red Wings fans, we simply don't know what's going to happen. The Shark's have not been consistent enough in their play for me to feel confident in anyway. The tools are certainly there, but their ability to utilize them is a big question.
This pretty much sums it up. Especially Niemi. I've been for him since the beginning, but I was a little concerned about the last series. I don't put as much blame on him as most here and I think we play Detroit better, which will support Niemi better, but he's gonna have to "stand on his head" in a couple games I think.

Both Philly and Washington will have home games this weekend. Wouldn't be surprised if they skip the Western Conference until Detroit has a home game.

No announcement tonight.
this is actually good. gives us another day of rest, which is great, as now we have 3 full days of rest. detroit is already overloaded on rest and another day adds to their rust.

It's likely that the Wings' home games will be on Tuesday twice and Thursday if the schedule above becomes reality.

I don't think we have improved since last year. Yes, scoring depth is much better. But that is offset by decrease in our top line as well as decrease in PK with no Manny and Blake. And I think our defense is worse than last year losing Blake and decline in Boyle's play. Goaltending is a wild card. Niemi has the ability to steal a series where Nabby didn't. We need Niemi to step up to beat Detroit.

Wouldn't be stunned if we dodge the NBC bullet, then. Isn't one of the next two weekends the 7 hour pregame for the 55 second Kentucky Derby?

A Detroit home game on a weekend seems very unlikely if the series starts on Friday. Unless they do something like this:

Friday @SJ
Sunday @SJ
Wednesday @DET
Saturday @DET
Monday @SJ
Wednesday @DET
Saturday @SJ

I don't think they're going to skip out on the Red Wings.

Some of you have some doubts (guess I can blame you), but the all-time Sharks and Wings PO series is tied at 2 and 2. And the Sharks won three games on the road and three games in OT in round 1. We can do this!!!

I remember one year on Kentucky Derby day that the NBC game was taken off the air right before overtime because the Derby coverage was starting (the game got moved to Versus).

The NBC game that day (Saturday, May 7th, I think) would have to be a noon or 1pm eastern start then. Logically, putting the Sharks game there makes no sense at all.

out top line is our top line, i dont htnk they are worse or better, just their usual bipolar selves. who knows which jt and marleau will show up.

ian white and studwood each have more points in 1 series than manny and blake combined over 3. they were largely ineffective last year. our pk sucks more this year yeah but i think thats more of our system than anything else.

Manny's PK numbers were awful and he was a no-show in the playoffs. I love the guy but Wellwood >>>>>>> Malhotra.

that looks like an NBA playoff schedule. That'd be ridiculous. I'm anxious to know b/c I have game 1 tickets. This makes it hard to plan the week!

The series thread in the playoffs board is way less fun to read than the LA series thread. Bummer.
