Correct. In order of hatred, it goes Van, Detroit, Nash, and then Sharks.

So I'm making myself comfortable on this bandwagon.

from last year, they only added hudler, and the growth by guys like helm is countered by the fact that they are one year older (2 40 year olds, a bunch of ppl over 38). they limped in to the playoffs. sure they killed phx, but this phx team was worse than the prev years version, losing guys like michelek and bryz was just ice cold this time around. there is absolutely no reason we should not win this, we match fairly well against them, and tmac knows the red wings as well as anyone in the league.
This motivated me! I will say sharks in six. Will be a tough series.

I'm going to say Sharks in 6.

Wallin really shines in the second round, right?

Unfortunately, I'm going somewhere where there is no Versus and it will be difficult to get an Internet connection. Like last year, it will be radio only for me, hopefully without the storms.

Just to give a perspective on the depth of both teams. In the first round last year the Wings won against Phoenix in 7 games. In those 7 games the Wings bottom 6 had 4 points and was -1. This year the bottom 6 of the Wings through 4 games has 15 points and are +19.

Through the first 6 games of the 1st round for the Sharks, the 4th line only played about 19 minutes total.

I have no clue if this will be any sort of difference in the series as you'd think it would but sometimes it doesn't really matter.

Depth refers to more than just your fourth forward line.

I'm thinking this series will definitely go 6 or 7. I'm predicting Detroit to win because well...it's probably the inherent bias that comes from being a fan ...but I could definitely see the series going either way.

The old comments are worn out. The Red Wings have been old for about 10 seasons now. Yes, Lidstrom is old as balls but last I looked is still a decent player. Same with Rafalski. Bertuzzi and Salei aren't counted on enough for it to really matter honestly.

Scared of all the elite weapons that San Jose has on offense. I hope the Wings can do an adequate job of slowing down the big guns or else we are effed.

Anyways, good luck guys (but not too much luck!).
How badly did you want to say "The old comments are getting old."?

Phoenix was a lot worse than LA IMO. seemed like they only got stuff done when they were on a PP, or when they were down by so much that Detroit got bored.

Look at the team you went up against though.
Phoenix had limited scoring and no depth. They lost key players in the top 6 and from their top 4. Then their goalie went super cold.
San Jose's 3rd line is a bigger scoring threat than the Coyote's first line.

Not that it really matters, the key thing here is that both Detroit and San Jose have much better forward depth than last year. Both teams defense has had its issues at times and both teams have had their starting goalie go from looking like a Vezina candidate to a waiver candidate over the course of the season.

I just hope its an awesome series... and that the sharks win.

Bah. I took a peek at the main series thread and quickly decided to never go there again. I'm way too mellow of a guy to withstand that garbage. Best of luck to those of you involved

Gonna go to the Kings board to pretend we are still playing them

Well, in fairness to Phoenix when comparing them to LA in the regular season, they were better in terms of scoring and even in PP%. But LA didn't have Kopitar. Phoenix was actually better in virtually all offensive categories.

LA definitely had more skill and has a better lineup on paper.

But I think the difference obviously was Bryzgalov isn't good in the playoffs and Quick was better, besides his mammoth collapses.

As much as Howard is lambasted, he can shut the doors on occasion. Sounds just like Niemi don't it?

Anyways, the difference between last year and this year is that the Wings are about as rested as can be versus last year they were running on empty.

PS: Don't worry, once the series starts, you won't see me on your boards. Let's both avoid the temptation of trolling.

I think one of the main questions is wether or not Franzen is healthy.

If he's not, who will Murray crush and will that player die from it?
If he is, how long will Franzen remain weeping, collecting his gear on his fours on the ice.

Also, how many zero angle goals will Couture score this series?

If that's the case, aren't Niemi's stats vs Detroit very good? Whereas Howard has collapsed in the past vs the Sharks.
