Any idea why?

I assume this is so they get to see what it is like to practice with a playoff team (bonding & stuff) ?

Hopefully this is not due to injury.

Depth. I believe Cincy is out, Admirals have Smith and Engren, and soon Dex. Laakso is likely our first call-up anyway, and the Ads might be close to getting Ellis.

Exactly. Depth is an issue for this series as Vancouver does not allow for a same day recall very easily. Pickard is up because Cincinnati is out and will serve as the 3rd goalie reducing reps for Pekka in practice and being there just in case. Laakso solves that long standing issue of not having a 7th defenseman on the roster. Again, if something were to happen to our top-6, Laakso is No. 7 on the depth charts and has been playing great with Milwaukee.

No news on injuries, the team is just making sure we have a full roster for the second round.

Pickard is up for the experience, but I get the feeling Laakso will play. He was a very valuable asset to the Admirals, so why would they recall him just to have him sit?

Only if they think he will be better than SOB in Vancouver. Whatever works, I don't care.

Can Blum replace SOB on the PK for an entire series against a good PP team like Vancouver? If so, move Laakso into SOB's spot if SOB proves that his... mental lapses... will continue

Like it or not, SOB was pretty decent on the PK in the first round, whereas Blum looked pretty shaky. It was more than a coincidence that the Ducks PP was able to convert at a higher rate when it was SOB vs someone else in the box. In almost every situation where Blake scored, he was Blum's man.

Blum's going to be a good one, but he's pretty clearly not ready for a regular PK shift.

sucks for the Ads but this is the smart move.

we would be screwed not only for one game but for at least the next one if we were forced to skate 5 Dmen against the Canucks.

also will maybe help our bottom 4 focus if they realize they cant give anything less than 100% or there is a replacement ready..

thats said, no way Laakso plays unless someone really craps the bed(yes i am looking at you, meathead).

i thought pickard was called up because lindback was doing practice plus all the drills and post practice stuff with the scratches and injuries. gives them a third goalie for practices and morning skates.

I agree pickard is there to take the practice load and....to have mitch corn in his ear everyday. It'll be one hell of a goalie camp for him.

Laakso is one of the greatest names in the NHL.

I'm overjoyed that Laakso is up. We had NO insurance at D. Someone needed to be taking reps with the team, listening to the coaching staff, bonding with the guys, watching the games.

It still would be like getting thrown into a burning building but at least he will have had a beer with a firefighter first.
