Columbus' 8th overall pick 2011
Philly 1st round pick 2011
Ben Scrivens/Jussi Rynnas
Toronto 2nd round pick 2013
*Only Under the Condition that Komisarek is somehow dealt with, whether it be through trade, waivers, or trashcan.*
With this trade, Columbus adds a smooth skating defenceman with offensive upside in Gardiner. A winger with a breakout season who should maintain 50 point pace. A 3rd line centre with 2nd line upside. A pick and a promising goalie prospect. They also manage to dump Mike Commodore's contract.
I think it addresses some of the needs of CBJ like a good defenceman, young solid forward depth and possibly goaltending.
You obviously have no idea what the Blue Jackets needs are if you think that trade addresses them.
The Blue Jackets needs are a true #1 center (not a "he would be a #1 center on your team" guy but a TRUE #1 center) and a true #1 defenseman (again, not a "he would be a #1 defenseman on your team" guy). The Blue Jackets aren't going to trade two of their best assets to obtain either of those for Toronto's scraps and futures.
We don't need defense prospects, borderline top-6 centers, or scoring wingers who may or may not keep scoring when they get here. But congrats on recognizing that Howson will never trade out of the first round in a deal.
Remember - when you're a hockey fan, it's not "reckless driving", it's "good forechecking".

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!
