Nice post. You forgot to include Leighton as the #1 and Shelley as the first-line centre. You seem to be making a posting career of the intentional counterintuitive points of view, and collecting "R U sarcastic?" replies.

Pass on that.
I like Schneider's skill set but signing him would not help to settle things down. The goalie carrousel would spin again the whole season until either Bob or Schneider grab the majority of starts. Last but not least, it would mean we would go into playoffs without a veteran fallback.

Well, I don't know if they will decide to try to move Timonen, but he has a NTC IIRC, so he'd have to agree to be traded, and similar to Gagne we'd have to get him to agree, then figure out to which team(s) he would go, and deal with them to see what, if anything, we could get back.

Getting a prospect or picks back would be fine, since we don't need to get anything for him, we need cap room to sign Vokoun or Brzygalov (presumably).

Hard to say what they will do, but let's see how the playoffs go first. Bouch and Bob may yet win us the Cup, so having them back next year might still be the plan.

If they are your goalies, you don't need to move Timonen (or Briere, Carter, Richards, Coburn, Carle, Meszaros, Versteeg etc.) for cap room....

Win tonight. That's all that matters now.

just did this on capgeek real quick. it would require getting rid of versteeg and carle, but i'm not really taking into account what we'd be taking back for them, so it's a little unrealistc, as all the new guys are pending UFAs
i think it would be pretty cool though

Having seen the past 6 games of Montador I say Hell NO! He's been the worst d for Sabres easily.

I don't want either of Kopecky, Torres and Montador on this team.
Also, I doubt Leino, a 45-50 point scorer, will sign for less than $3mil.
Same with Vokoun, if he signs for less than $4mil he's just plain stupid.

While I have duly noted that the above post was highly sarcastic/trolltastic, I second the thought of bringing Pyorala back just so my avatar can be relevant again.

I just realized that Jonathan Ericsson will be a UFA, unless he resigns with Detroit. Any idea what amount he could demand on an open market? I wouldn't mind signing him if it's possible.

Put Bob in the A and resign Boosh as backup.

So they play Bob 54 games this season to put him in the AHL next season? Highly doubt that happens.

I took some liberties. Honestly, if we bring in Schneider (assuming he doesn't have any lingering injury issues), I would have no problem playing Bob in the AHL next season. Schneider already had that seasoning in Vancouver's system and is ready. I would be fairly confident in making him the starting tender, with Boosh backing. I could see keeping Bob up and sending Leights back to the AHL but Boosh is a more stable (and affordable) backup. Let Bob get some more seasoning in the AHL. Bring him up the year after to share the job with Schneider. But then what about Leighton? Hmmm...let's just say, I'd rather trade for Schneider, who I believe can be a starting goalie for the next 10+ years, then pay $4-6 million for a free agent who may have a bit more experience, but not be any better. Bringing Schneider in the system, along w Bob and Eriksson, our goaltending will be a point of strength going forward and not one of weakness.

I guess I'm just saying I'd like to trade for Schneider (Carle?) and sign Upshall (in place of Z?), the rest I haven't really thought through. Anyway, they'll be a time to ponder all of this more seriously after the task at hand is finished.

Next year is going to go 1 of 2 ways and I can't tell you which because I think it all depends upon how we feel about the developement of Backlund. If we believe he's ready to play in the NHL then I think we will resign Boucher for around a mil and let Backlund and Bobrovski battle it out for the other goalie spot with the other in the minors for now. If Backlund isn't ready, then I don't see us counting on Bob/Boucher next year so we'd have ot move a big $ contract and I believe it will be either Hartnell or Carke with the edge going to Hartnell. Anyways, I'll post the rosters for each scenario.

Scenario #1, going with bargin basement goalies:

Carcillo (1.25m) Richards Verseeg (10m)
Leino (3 mil) Briere Hartnell (13.7m)
JVR Carter Giroux (10.8m)
Shelly Betts Powe (2.6m)

Carle Pronger (8.4m)
Timonen Coburn (9.5m)
Mezz Svret/Bart (4.8m)

Bob/Boucher/Backlund (2.5m)

62.3 mil total

Scenario #2, getting a big named goalie:

Carcillo (1.25m) Richards Verseeg (10m)
Leino (3 mil) Carter/Briere Briere/Carter (14.7m)
JVR Giroux Nodl/Zherdev (7.5m)
Shelly Betts Powe (2.6m)

Carle Pronger (8.4m)
Timonen Coburn (9.5m)
Mezz Svret/Bart (4.8m)

????goalies (5.0m)

62.5 mil total

Hartnell-Briere-Leino
JvR-Carter-Roo
Wellwood-Richards-Nodl
Powe-Betts-Shelley/Holmstrem/Reed etc.

Pronger-Carle
Timonen-Coburn
Mez-Bartulis
Syvret

Bryzgalov/Vokoun
Bobrovsky

Trade Versteeg for Rights and a pick for Bryz or Vokoun and get it done. Please. If Z or Carcillo are able to be had back for a reasonable price I wouldn't mind seeing either back as well.

I realy think Z may be able to be had for a cheaper price then most think, I don't think people are going to throw a huge amount of money his way with what happened this year, I could see us getting him back for roughly the same price. Carcillo there are some teams that need grit and I could see someone getting into a bidding war for him albeit a small one but enough to say ok you can have him.

We've been carrying 23 guys on the roster for most of this season I believe. While we may not do so next year, we'll most likely have 22 guys (a 13th forward and a 7th d) at least.

That guy will be 30years old next season with an NHL experience of 1 game and has been constantly outperformed by leighton! this year in the ahl.

Neither Vokoun nor Bryzgalov will sign for $3.000m unless someone offers them a 7+year contract including NMC (which I doubt the Flyers would even consider at that point).

I would be very worried if he was one of our two goalies up with the Flyers next year. I don't know if he'll be headed for Europe however. He has one more year on his contract, and the final year was a one-way deal I believe.

At this point next year is next year, this next round is going to tell a lot about whether this team has the ability to play against a higher level of competition.

There are several solutions to look forward, but going in against the Bruins it is going to tell a lot about where our goaltending stands which, if it does not make the routine, timely saves, it is going to be priority #1 and no player on the roster should be considered safe.

Really? If I am Mike Richards, Danny Briere, Chris Pronger, Claude Giroux amongst others.....I would feel pretty safe in my job for next year.

Only guys who would not be moved would be players with a NMC(Briere), but it is still possible. This team should be playing like their jobs are on the line, because anything short of a SCF run is coming up short, and it is either because of the compete level or the goaltending.
