Reichel back on the Leafs:

I can't spend five minutes watching him float through a game again.

It kills me to say this but I would rather have clod Belak than Reichel.

He has spent the last three years trying to develop a second offensive move. Not very surprisingly when NHL defenseman caught onto his one trick pony act his scoring touch disappeared.

Although you are a Gilbert and Sullivan fan, and must thus be given extra consideration, I must respectfully disagree with you about Reichel.

Imo, he was one of the most under appreciated Leafs. Overpaid? Yes, I will concede that. Floater? Never! He didn't charge around like a chicken with his head cut off (see exhibit "Tie Domi") but that was because of his brains and not a lack of effort. He knew where to be and when, and he did so with a minimum of effort. He had great defensive awareness and could contribute offensively.

I believe, if Igor larionov had been a Leaf, fans would have accused him of being a floater!

Perhaps I was too critical of Reichel who certainly had his good points as a player. My last memories of him are of the playoffs where, you must admit, he was not at his best. And for me to prefer useless clod Belak is Exhibit B in my overstatement.

Lol.

The interesting thing for me, after mentioning Larionov, was going to hockeydb.com and comparing their stats. Their tenures in Detroit and Toronto respectively were quite similar statistically, although Larionov's tenure was longer.

I think Igor was better, but now I am inclined to think not by a whole lot.

All that said, I wasn't sorry to see Reichel go.

I remember when he got his penalty shot against Chechmanek and he just slapped the puck into the goalie's chest. What the hell was he thinking?!

Anyway, Reichel was a decently useful player, but he was definitely overpaid and I'm not too sorry to see him go.

Chechmanek has a tendency to drop his block on slapshots, he was trying to get him to bite, open up the hole and go for it. Obviously didn't turn out that way, but thats the book on Chechmanek, who is apperantly a great shoot-out goalie.

He would still cough up the puck at the end of his rush.
