Proposal: Stephen Weiss to the Leafs

In light of the many leaf proposals on HF, i'll keep i simple. If we can't sign Richards, what would it take to get Weiss...ideas??

We can get Weiis for free, but Weiss will cost us BOS 1st + PHI 3rd and a decent prospect.

we already have a better version in Grabovski ...never been a fan of the much overrated, and super hyped Weiss.

Weiss would certainly give a huge boost to our center depth, but I'm not so sure it would be worth it for the Leafs to pursue him. His cap hit is great for a rebuilding team, and while he may not be a star 1st line center, he is still a very good player, and I can't see Florida wanting to part with him unless there was severe overpayment offered up.

I'd rather have Grabo and Kadri as our 2 centers if we can't get Richards.

He will cost more than he's worth.

If we strike out on Richards, I would rather hang onto the cap space and see what players are available at the trade deadline next spring or free agents in the summer of 2012.

The Leafs are a LONG way off from being contender.. wasting assets on players like Weiss is a fantastic way to ensure we never become one.

it would only have been worth it at the deadline when they were trying to push for the playoffs, i dont see the point for TOR anymore

And it would cost you more than that to get him out of Florida. He is so valuable to our team, he won't go for free.
