chi - pitts

After watching both rounds closely over the past season and playoffs, I have somewhat of an idea of both teams needs. So this is my proposal:

To Chi:

Derek Englland (spelling)

To Pitts:

Jordan Hendry
3rd round pick.

Chi gets some grit on the back end and pitts gets a decent d-man who has proven to be able to play regularly at the NHL level. Because Pitts will be hesistant to give up Englland, a 3rd round pick is thrown in.

Pitts will be fine without Englland, where as Chicago desperately needs his grit.

I sincerely doubt that you watched the Tampa Bay/Pittsburgh series.

People were clamoring for Engelland but DB continued to roll out the Niskanen/Lovejoy pairing to get abused.

You forget the enforcer element to his game as well. Engelland is signed very, very cheap for a while. He is an amazing fighter who can play defense. He will take Eric Godard's role at a fraction of the price, and be a servicable defenseman to boot. He is hardly a core player, but for his cap hit and role you do not trade players like that.

As well, the return is exactly what we do not need. We have a lot of defensemen, to the point where someone is going to be left out soon with players like despres likely up soon enough. Getting another back? Not really of use at all.

More likely to get Lovejoy instead of Engelland.

If you have too many d-men, how does

To Pitts

Troy Brouwer
4th round pick

To Chi:

Derek Englland
Michael Rupp (his rights)

Chicago gets a tough d-man, and some grit for the bottom 6.

Pittsburgh gets a guy who could play potentially with Crosby or Malkin and Stall and give their live a big, somewhat brusing, winger.

I think Niskanen will be the one to be moved, he's got more upside than Lovejoy but he costs about 3 times as much. If I was Shero I'd move Niskanen and then use the money to sign a solid #5 dman and have Lovejoy/Engelland rotate in the #6 spot.

What part of "we need Engelland" isn't registering?

Our top 4 is chiseled in stone. Our bottom pairing will likely consist of some combination of Niskanen, Lovejoy, and Engelland, and Engelland is the only one in that group to play a stout physical defensive game. Byslma went with the Niskanen/Lovejoy pairing in the Tampa series against the wishes of most fans and at his team's peril.

Hopefully he learned his lesson.

So, basically, Troy Brouwer for Derek Englland and a 4th for a CHANCE at resigning Rupp? No thanks.

If Brouwer is being traded, we're getting back more then a guy who's barely proven to be an NHLer, and a 4th liner...
