Zach Parise To The Rangers?

During this offseason, Zach Parise becomes a restricted free agent. If everything goes according to plan and we buy out Drury and Wolski, we will have approximately 24,654,166 in cap space. This doesn't even account for possible removals of Sean Avery, Derek Boogaard, and Erik Christensen.

The next order of business would be resigning restricted free agents: Ryan Callahan Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, Brian Boyle, Michael Sauer, and Matt Gilroy(maybe?)

After that we would have enough cap space for Richards and maybe Parise(at the right price? and if New Jersey lets him go to free agency)

Agree or disagree? If you disagree who else would you imagine we could sign.

We obviously would all love for Parise to become a Ranger, but honestly, there's a >1% chance of that happening. Several reasons, really:

a. Not enough cap space
b. We're dealing with snatching a highly regarded UFA from Lou Lamierello - it's nothing more than a pipe dream, and in the end, it may not be worth it
c. Would he want to sign in NY? People just assume he would. I don't know if he would want to.
d. Lou Lamierello
e. Sather might not be prepared to give up 4 1sts for Parise as compensation
f. Lou Lamierello

Lamoriello is still involved, so NEVER HAPPENING!

Sather could be drunk one day and offer Lou 1st round picks from 2012-2020, Lundqvist, Stall and Dubinsky, and Lou would still flip the bird at Sather.

To sign Parise, we'd have to give him an offer sheet. At the price it would cost to sign him, you are probably looking at 4 1st round picks as compensation.

If everything goes as you have laid it out, we still wouldn't have enough money to sign both Richards and Parise. You can't just take players off the roster without replacing them, even if it's with a rookie making the minimum.

So no, there is absolutely no chance that we can sign Parise this offseason. The devils may opt for arbitration, which would prohibit him from signing an offer sheet while they try to work out a longer term deal.

If they can't work out a long term deal, then he'll likely settle for the 1 year arbitration award. After that he will be UFA and teams will be trying to clear cap space to sign him next offseason. I don't see that happening though, not with the CBA expiring after next year. He can get his money now, or he can roll the dice on the cap dropping in the next CBA and maybe get less.

How much is Lou going to sign him to? Sounds like they are pooling all their money into two guys.

I'd rather try to sign him as a UFA if he isn't locked up by the Devils for forever. This isn't a knock on Parise, but I would only give up four 1sts for Crosby, Ovie, or Stamkos.

Would add to that group Weber and Doughty, even though they're Ds.
Would turn our power play from worst to first, give or take.
Plus, in Tort's style, they'd pinch a lot adding to goals whether or not the get the assist.

While we're at it, I propose this team going forward:

Ovechkin-Crosby-St. Louis
Sedin-Sedin-Perry
Zetterberg-Malkin-Iginla
Parise-Getzlaf-Giroux

Weber-Suter
Keith-Seabrook
Staal-Burns

Lundqvist
Rinne

I'm sure this roster is both cap compliant and well within the realm of possibility.

No goon? You mean Iginla as the mucker? How can we beat Philly then?
Ummmm - Rather see Pronger on 3rd D pairing with Burns. We do not need too many homegrown players on our squad - this is NYC - get it!?! And switch Chara with Keith while we are at it. Put Doughty in as the 7th D & Stamkos + Doan in as 13th/14th FWDs. Gabby is placed on the injured reserve list (done automatically) and Selšnne is emergency callup from The Whale. Now we are good to go... no?
Where do we fit in Petr Prucha, PA Parenteau, J Orts and Peter Worell? Outta cap space it seems...

Your being ridiculous. We obviously can't do this because it's way too frugal. We need to sign a whole other team of stars and bench them the entire year.

If you're gonna offer sheet someone, should probably be Stamkos if you ask me.

Either way, not happening.

The Debbies would match and deal with the fallout rather than see their star to their closest rival. No way they let that happen.

That is the only way. As previously mentioned Sather doesn't believe in offer sheets. And of course, if we were to actually go ahead and do it Parise would definitely blow out his knee for good in October and we'd be watching the Devils selecting our first round picks for the next 4 years. lol

Why split up Getzlaf and Perry?
Wouldn't you want to keep the whole line of Perry Getzlaf and Ryan? Ryan is much more affordable than Iginla.
Zetterberg is more of a center than a winger, Stamkos would be cheaper and could be better suited for the wing.
Brent Burns really sucks in his own zone and there's no way you can fit him under the cap. Keith Yandle is much cheaper.

Lamoriello has a history of underpaying. Going to be very interesting to see what the offer is.

Quote:
Over $3,091,963 to $4,637,944 First-round and third-round choice
Over $4,637,944 to $6,183,925 First-round, second-round and third-round choice
I think these are the correct figures. Lamoriello would be smart to give Parise a 1 year deal $4.7m just to keep people away. Parise is easily worth a 1st and a 3rd.

Great to daydream about, but no chance of this happening. The only chance the Rangers ever have of getting him is if Parise doesn't sign long term and becomes an UFA in 2 season. I highly doubt that will happen though.

I doubt anyone's been more hungry to sign Parise away from the Devils. I'm not even allowed in the Parise thread on their board anymore, that said. I want to see how he rebounds from the injury that kept him out for a full season before he gets his pay day.....
