Every time I see the kid, I think "top six" forward at the least.
When I see him use his skills, I think top six forward. When I see him standing up straight skating around and waiting for the play to come to him, I cringe and hope he can find a way to get out of that mindset

There is nothing wrong with Torts system. Also, Gaborik has shown that he could be productive with or without legit centre. Problem with Torts is his personality. His perception of game. His preference to warriors over artists. System is less important than the way it is implemented.

Tortorella has gotten a lot out of players that are willing to put in the effort and sacrifice that's required to win.

Tell what? Those were a skilled players. NHL coaches do not improve or teach skills. Movie directors do not work on actor's skills. HC only direct players very much like movie director uses actors by creating a game plan that would fulfill the individual contributions making it a team success at the end. When the expression "he got a lot out of his players " used that means the coach created plan and used in it his players the way that allowed their individual talents to be fulfilled the most. Sure there are work ethic issues that have to be addressed, but once it becomes the most important part of coaches work, once he gets to be a slave driver, that path And his tenure will end pretty soon.

Your tenure as a coach in the NHL is based on the success you have with the players you ask for/are provided as they are not always the same.

As long as Torts gets buy-in from the team into the concept he is preaching, he will have a job because he will continue to have success.

There will come a point where he gets the talent needed to contend, if he fails to contend, then I can see him getting the ax, but that will be because he was not able to generate greater success with better talent.

As it stands right now, as long as Sather gives him medicore talent, and he continues to make the PO's, he will still have a job.

Once that stops, and only when that stops will he get shown the door.

So what you're saying is when skilled players play good, Torts gets no credit, when grinders play good Torts is overrated, and when skilled players play subpar he deserves to get the axe.

Same here. There is no question Kreider has the look of a top 6 NHL forward. He just needs to keep on progressing and getting experience. No need to rush him.
