The whole line has sucked. I can't understand why lavy is pushing them up against bostons top line again and again.

Hartnell just isn't very good at playing to his strengths.

I don't think he has been that bad. He's been taking a huge defensive responsibility on that line and also does a lot of unheralded work creating space for Brière and Leino.

I want to see him get the puck to the net by taking it there or tossing it there. Every time he goes in the zone he twists back to the board hash marks and nothing comes of it.

At least if this guy and team take a penalty he can run Thomas the bruins goalie

That's disgusting, even if you're joking. I recognize the goal is to win, but deliberately trying to injure a goaltender by running him is beyond the pale.

Besides, we all know Thomas would give as good as he got against just about anyone who tried to run him. He's done it before.

Hartnell is doing his best playing defence while his linemates are waiting for breakout passes. Everyone talks about the points Briere and Leino are putting up but they are a defensive nightmare.

Oh I know. I'd have to think though that if we on the Bruins forum were talking about lowbridging Pronger or going knee-on-knee against Briere, and a Flyers fan called us on it, we'd take his words at face value regardless of allegiance. It's the exact same thing, just a different player position.

I think you can run a goalie without intent to injure just to shake him up a little bit. I'm not suggesting it, but didn't Hartnell give Thomas a lot of grief in the Winter Classic last season and cause him to blow up and let in a goal?

That wasn't running him. He was just crowding the net, that's what offensive players do. The good ones anyway.

You talk about running a goaltender, what you're talking about is charging at speed into the crease with the purpose of laying a hit on the tender. It's very dirty, and very likely to result in an injury because of the way goalies have to contort themselves.

trade hartnell for bernier, resign Zherdev, win the cup

so true, goaltender padding is meant to stop everything from the front, and offers no protection on the back end.
