It's not a question of his ice time being cut back in Game 6 (he was on the ice for the OT game winner by Leino). He was untouched, and didnt even appear upset.
The thought is that he played 3 minutes of what appeared to be unhurt hockey in Game 6 OT. Where was he injured then? Why has his injury not been made public? I think it's a pretty fair question.
If he crossed a line that Ruff and the rest of the players deem crossed a line (think of Avery's 2nd's comment) then it would not surprise me that Ruff would pull him to discipline him. Many of the Sabres are still friends with Briere too.
This is just pure speculation but the team is holding itself to higher standards it wouldn't surprise me.
In one of the recent interviews he specifically denied rumors that he punched a locker - honestly, I think him punching a locker after that loss is much more likely than an NHL player getting benched or punished for trash talking about an opponents marital situation. I mean come on, they're big boys.
Unless something bad gets picked up by a live mic, no one cares. And even then - it's only the league that cares about their image, not a coach punishing one of his guys.
