You're not getting Ladd without giving them a huge asset unless they want to tank hard. Even then they'd probably want something like Thomas+++
atlanta isn't dealing ladd...wheeler maybe but no way they trade their captain.
that said though if he was available, i'd trade thomas for him in a heartbeat. i'm as excited as everyone about thomas' potential but ladd is only 24, he scored 29 last year and fits perfectly into the type of team we are building...
loves CT's potential but thats a deal i make pretty quickly
Salary cap is not an issue for Atlanta.
Although ownership uncertainly will mean that we will never spend to the cap, we are certainly not restricting payroll to only the cap floor.
Dudley is looking to add another top 6 winger in addition to re-signing Wheeler and Ladd.
And also I think Wheeler would rather play in Atlanta given we have given him first line minutes as opposed to New York where he will have a reduced role behind Gaborik and probably Callahan.
Also regarding the defenseman. Oduya would get traded first to create more cap room if required. Hainsey played really well last season and also has a modified no trade clause.
Thanks for the laugh. Ladd is not going anywhere as he is captain and Wheeler will cost Ryan Callahan as we need a RW in return.
I would like Wolski in Atlanta but I don't think Dudley would bite. We already had a similar player in Nic Bergfors and he didn't work out. I don't think Dudley wants to get burned twice by trading for floater.
Thanks for the info. I was under the impression the Thrashers were cap floor team. Do you have any kind of rough estimate of how much ownership is usually willing to spend on salaries?
And yeah, I figured it'd be one of Oduya or Hainsey, but I thought Hainsey was under serious fire in Atlanta and was on the way out. Oduya makes just as much sense, though.
Valuewise - what would we need to give up for getting both Wheeler & Boogosian in one deal?
Not at all saying it should be done - just seeing what you all think we would need to offer...
He had his chance to play in NY a few years back but chose Boston over the Rangers. From what i remember we offered him the same contract Boston did.
Well I hope that life changing decision he made paid off, getting shipped to one of the worst hockey markets in the NHL.
But I would still take him...
Boston guaranteed him a starting job in the NHL. We wouldn't commit to that.
I don't think you'll get him away from Atlanta at this point. He was solid for them down the stretch, and he's likely to be an important piece moving forward. Plus, they're in limbo right now in terms of franchise stability, so they desperately need to retain a quality roster -- if only to make themselves more appealing to buyers.

Just a thought - Wheeler + Boogosian + 2011 3rd rounder (NYR have none) for Wolski, MDZ, Grachev/Werek and a 2011 2nd round pick (Atlanta has none) + 2012 2nd rounder
I don't mind Wheeler, but why do Ranger fans continue to want more 2nd & 3rd liners? We already have too many of them. His size is nice, but I don't recall that he even uses that well... although I didn't follow him after the trade. WE NEED SCORING!!!

stepan will center the 3rd line if we get richards and he needs wingers.

Close?
if they would accept it i would take it and run i would even give them our 2011 1st instead of 2nd

That would be a TERRIBLE deal for ATL.
Wolski, Grachev/Werek may be equal together in value to Wheeler
but Bogosian>>>>>>>>>>>>>MDZ.
Bogosian is someone you can anchor your defense around for years to come, I don't see that out of MDZ. Bogosian is a well-rounded defenseman, again MDZ is not.
maybe get a Ladd+Wheeler trade without giving up huge assets somehow and throw Ladd into that top line LW spot. A bit of seasoning and thats a cup contender.
this is exactly what i was thinking towards lines..no way we get ladd though, probably will cost us a lot .. but i think these lines could do damage... also i haven't given up on wolski, i definitely want to give him a shot with gaborik and hopefully with richards... he still young and i think with a full year he could do damage under torts

Not close at all.
Dudley turned down two 1st round picks for Bogosian at the trade deadline.
Thrashers are not trading Wheeler. And if they did, a legit top 6 RW has to come back in return given he is the team's first line RW at the moment.

Where's Drury, Avery, & Boogaard? How you you getting rid of their entire cap hits?
Can't send anyone down until September so you have to add about $23 million to this roster to cover those 3 plus Redden.

Wasn't sure how to add in the buyouts on capgeek.
But Boogaard can be sent down to the minors, and even if we get rid of Wolski and use that money to buyout Drury and Avery then it would still work out.
