Datsyuk: Do the Kings need him? What would you trade for him?

The jury's still deliberating as to whether or not the Kings need him. However, here are some packages I'd put together to get him:

Cammalleri
Miller
1st in 2006

Lehoux
Miller
1st in 2006
2nd in 2007

Cammalleri
Lehoux
Miller

Pushkarev
Belanger
Miller
3rd in 2006

Kanko
Lehoux
2nd in 2006
4th in 2007

Corvo
Pushkarev
1st in 2007
3rd in 2006

27 year old 1st line 30 goal scorers don't exactly grow on trees. Some people say "well he only had 30 goals once in the NHL." I would say if the NHL had existed last year he would have had two straight season of 30 goals. As is he had a good season in the RSL and is just entering his prime.

Now do we NEED him. Thats debatable. I can't see to many reason not to take him if he really is avalible. I suppose it would have to depend on what we traded for him.

Don't think they would take this. I like Cammalleri, but the honest trueth is that really only Kings fans think he is going to be a top-6. Most other people think he has a shot at being good for a short while but think he is to small to stay around in the NHL for all that long. So in reality this is one high risk prospect and a 1st. Miller is UFA after the season.

So you really are trading nearly nothing for a top line player...

Same problem. Lehoux has nearly no trading value. He has one kinda of good year in which he gets injuried? Miller = UFA. So a 1st and a 2nd for Dats? No way...

Honestly all of your trade ideas are almost nothing for a 30 goal scorer.

I bet to get Dats you would start with a good young player like Gleason or Brown and work from there. Nothing players like Corvo or just draft picks are not going to get anyone....

Honestly I would trade nearly everyone except Brown, Gleason, Greb, and of course Franchise Frolov.

Yeah, a 30 goal scorer who then goes scoreless in 10 playoff games.
Do we have to sell our farm to get him? No way!
Highlight reel goals don't give you any Cup.

kings might not need him now...but when older players such as roenick become a free agent next year, it would be great to have a guy like datsuk at center for the following years...

i would venture to say that if the kings do trade for him, detroit would want pushkarev...he was the one they wanted a couple of years ago in the 2nd round when the kings got him...

corvo, pushkarev and bure for datsuk...

Done! Hell, I'd even through in a 1st rounder. Really, what is Pushkarev if not a Datsyuk clone?

I would like him to come to L.A., but it's not going to happen.

Detroit would want a lot for him and I'm guessing his future salary demands would not help matters either.

No, but they can get you into the playoffs.

If you want a big time playoff performer, than we should never have signed Bure either.

I'd take Dats in a heartbeat, especially for some of those offers that were given.

And no way that Detroit takes Corvo, Push and Bure for Datsyuk. If we get a guy like Datsyuk, we'd have to move Brown, Kopitar, Gleason, etc. in the deal. I'd imagine that'd turn off a lot of Kings fans right there, and i'm not to keen on it either. but, bottom line, that's almost guaranteed what we'd have to give up, a player of that caliber to get Datsyuk.

Getting Datsyuk would really hurt our farm system so, therefore I do not want him.

Datsyuk may be a great player, but there is absolutely no way I would give up what Detroit would be asking for the goal scorer. I really don't think I would be willing to give up any combination of Cammalleri, Brown, Gleason or Grebeshkov for him. Not even Cammy, Lehoux and a 1st round draft pick. I just don't want to hurt the system the Kings have created. It's a solid base, and the team is looking pretty interesting. If a certain bug doesn't rear its ugly head in Los Angeles, once again, I really believe this team can be a top 5 contender in the Western Conference. There is no room for Datsyuk and his $5-million per year asking price, especially not with the young core of players the Kings have. No way.

Agreed. And it's not like hes really all that young. He's what 28?

If he was 24 then ok, but 28....I'll pass.

And with that I would have to say "No way in HE!!." Giving up that much of the Kings future for Datsyuk, yes a good player, but no thanks.

Do we need a soft player that doesn't score in the playoffs? We already got one. He's name is Valery Bure.

I think you need a more 'adult' board if we are going to post wet dreams though

While I'm 100% in agreement, it's not past DT. Just look at the Palffy deal.

Scary that Biron was once a top prospect for us huh? *shudder*

Remember that Pushkarev is the guy the Red Wings were desperately trying to trade up for during the 2003 draft. I on the other hand would not want the Kings to trade for Datsyuk, as good as he may be, if it costs us a few of our good young prospects.

I agree, let Detroit pony up and pay him. I like our roster, and our prospects just the way they are now.
