Do the Flyers upgrade at goalie next season?

Very simple question, do the Flyers upgrade at goaltender next season? Yes or no.

I'd say yes, but Bob goes no where and he is not sent down.

It depends which square that Holmgren's headless chicken scurries to before collapsing.

Should we? Yes. Will we? No.

IMO, Homer will try to trade a couple beers to the Islanders for Nabokov.

This. I could see Homer signing Jose Theodore and going, "LOOK! WE HAVE A VEZINA WINNER!"

To trade or jettison one of our coveted forwards for any goalie is to ditch a known commodity for an unknown commodity.

Until they're on the ice in orange, it's a coin flip.

Wont lie... would love a goalie who could flatout steal games, no matter how the rest ofour team is playing.

LOL, nope, the lack of a good starting goalie will haunt us for as long as we live. Amazing that we were a good goalie away from winning the cup, and they still didn't grab one.

I said it in another thread... with the emergence of JVR, I say we use carter in a trade for one.

We can't trade Carter, and we won't.

But it means someone in our forward corps is expendable, and frankly we need to move one of the D. Like Matt Carle if we can find a dumb enough GM. It is certainly feasible that we'll have cap room for a decent goalie. But Homer won't do it.

I think this is the answer. To be a post Stanley Cup Flyer fan means having to deal with this issue. It is part of what it means to be a Flyers fan. In an existential way, the key is how can we find meaning in this situation? How can we achieve "authentic existence"? Where is Jean-Paul Sartre when you really need him...

I just think we need a quality veteran for a few years to let Bob come into his own.

Will they? I doubt it. Should they? Absolutely.

Bob could turn into something special, I don't think he ever will if we continue this ******** carousel. He's said himself he doesn't feel confident, we need a legit #1 for 1-2 years to even see if he's capable of being a true #1. I honestly don't believe he will develop properly if we continue doing what we're doing.

Yes, he may be ready to take us all the way 2-3 years from now but until then this team will have a bunch of old farts on defense, Danny B.s production will go down and a lot of our forward depth will be gone because of cap issues.

I wouldn't mind moving a D person, but do you really want to see a guy like Danny Syvret playing 20 minutes a game in the playoffs if Pronger, Timonen, Mez or Coburn miss a game? I would much rather let go of Versteeg for the same amount of cap savings and keep Carle.

I tend to agree with you. After seeing Snider pulling his hair out last night, I'd say this is going to be addressed. Boosh hasn't been terrible, but he's being outplayed nightly and giving teams some gifts.

This team has had 2 goaltenders in 20 years who could steal games in the playoffs (Cechmanek and Biron), and both of them were gone after the following season.

The fact that this team has to play a completely perfect game in order to win or not give up goals is very mentally draining.

What bothers me is we had this EXACT conversation last year. Homer made comments about how he HAS to solve the goaltending issue in the offseason. Then he let MFL convince him he's capable of being a real goalie.

He said that before the playoffs though, didn't he?

They'll attempt to, but ultimately won't deal out enough cash/years to the player and we will stick with Bob/Boosh.

Actually I think it was after the playoffs. San Fillipo wrote about it all and cited some internal team source about fixing the goaltending once and for all. Apparently we got the "fix" alright....
