21 goals as a rookie. Its certainly not out of the question. I see him more as a 20 goal guy and netting 40-50 assists.

I think he'll hit 30 at some point in his career. I don't think he'll be a perennial 30-goal guy.

But what do I know? I gave him almost zero chance at making the team this year, let alone potting 20 goals.

I am going to go out on a limb and say he will be a perennial 30 goal scorer starting after nest season where he will score 25.

I truly believe he can be a 70-75 point player. Intellectually he gets it. The physical side of it he can work on, and he will. Kid is going to be a stud.

To be fair, the people calling him the next Leetch were probably the same people now writing the kid off. In other words, the kind of posters who make this board unbearable sometimes.

Stepan could have a sophomore slump, but it shouldn't really change expectations.

In my opinion though, it is much harder to be a defenseman, so although Stepan might have a Sophomore slump next year, I wouldn't be worried. In my opinion, it is easier for Stepan to live up to his potential than it is for Del Zotto to rebound off of his slump and live up to his potential, being a defenseman. Just my 2 cents...

I think he'll hit Drury like numbers of 2000 and 2001 consistently with the occasional 30+ goal season. I think he'll score 30+ a couple times. Nothing dominating.

Who knows. Kid's 20. A lot of potential that only time will show.

I think he'll always have double the assists of his goals if he is with a decent scorers on his wing.

I can see him doing 25-50 consistently. His passing skills are significantly under-appreciated.

I think so but I'd much rather see him go 20-80 than 30-30.
hooray for maths!

Consistant 30-goal scorer? Probably not but I can see him potting 30 once or twice. He probably ends up being 20-goal/40/45 assist type of player. He has a knack of being in the right spot. He also needs to work at his skating.

Absolutely. McDonagh and Sauer could too. These things happen and I just hope people dont get on their back if they struggle next year.

hopefully a prototypical 2nd line center

barring injury we have many good seasons to look forward from him as a ranger

Talent and smarts to be a consistent 30-30 guy

Prime years - 30+ goals and could reach 40+ assists

The kid has got to work on his skating. Eventually, the rest of the league will catch on to him and know how to defend against Stepan. Skating is the only issue I see that could hurt him in the long run. He's gonna have to figure out ways to create more space for himself through better footwork.

This. Throughout the year, his skating was sub-par, and by the time fatigue hit him during the playoffs, he was barely moving. He's noticeably slow, and it affects his game adversely. I'm sure it's going to be the key thing that Steps will be working on over the summer. Torts is a great conditioning coach and will work on his stamina and help him with his speed. Plus, if they end up using the same skating coach they used for Boyle, it should work wonders.

Never thought I'd see the day where I'd look at one of the Rangers' top forward prospects and say, "Gee, I sure wish he skated more like Brian Boyle."

I think his assists will go up much more than his goals. I can see him as a 25-50=75 center.

Maybe once or twice, but I see him more as a 20 - 25 goal, 40 - 50 assist type of player with good two way ability.

I'd love to see him improve with faceoffs and skating. I think it'd help his game big time.

He's more of a playmaker but 21 as a rookie looks good so far to become a 30 goal scorer.

No doubt in my mind. He could easily hit 40 if he has a good year or two in his prime.

Unfortunately they all do, i guess it the style of play employed by coaching staff. Get it to the front of the net any chance u get. For a fan its not to appealing and to win in the long run i dont think that works.

I think he should hit consistently 25-30 goals with 45+ assists. He has the play making ability and the ability to be in the right spot at the right time. When there is more talent on the team in his prime years, his numbers should def go up especially on the PP. Also I believe once he establishs himself as a play maker the league will respect his passing abilities and that should alone open up his chances to catch goalies cheating and opportunities to shoot the puck more.

i think hell have a few 30+ seasons combined with 40+ assists... but most importantly hes going to have a lot of clutch goals in the future!
