Pronger: expected to return for Game 3

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=561768

Quote:
PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Flyers will be without defenseman Chris Pronger for Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday (7:30 p.m. ET, VERSUS, TSN, RDS).

The club did not give a reason for the absence when announcing he would not be playing.

Pronger did not skate with the team at Tuesday's morning skate, but when the Flyers distributed a post-practice injury report Tuesday, it listed Pronger as "OK."

Pronger was a minus-3 in 19:45 of action in Game 1 on Saturday, the most ice time he's seen in his three games back from a broken right hand that sidelined him for nearly seven weeks. However, he did not play in the final five minutes of Game 1, which CSNPhilly.com reported was a back issue. It was also reported he's suffering from a head cold.

I know it's being discussed just now in the GDT, however some people do not read the entire post there.

From CSN:

Quote:
The Flyers have not disclosed any injury news, but different sources indicate it’s two injuries. Pronger injured his back either at the end of the Buffalo series or in Game 1 against Boston. Because of that, he was favoring it while skating and subsequently pulled a hamstring.

ApeZilla, where in Mt. Pocono do you live? I'm in Tobyhanna... never expected to see someone so close to where I live on here, haha.

I used to live in Tobyhanna, on 196, right past domino's. I live in Lehighton now, moving to Bethlehem soon. My girl still lives on Echo Lake, right before Pocono Farms. Where do you live man?

It's okay...Honestly...losing Briere, Timonen, or Giroux would be more catastrophic.

The first of the updates for Game 3...

Could he have pulled his hamstring while favoring his back? That seems to be one possibility here. The Flyers aren’t talking, but Pronger is expected to return to the series for Game 3 on Wednesday in Boston.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren would not comment other than to say the defenseman has an undisclosed injury.

The only thing we know for sure is that Pronger recently returned to the lineup after recovering from a fracture in his right hand.

Well hopefully this is not an indication of things to come with him........he is now reaching that age where staying healthy just becomes a tall order...

Maybe it's time we start looking for another younger impact D to deal with Pronger and now Timonen aging. Mez will help but looks like we need more. Too bad we need a legit starting goalie something bad as well...

I'm just going to go ahead and assume Pronger's done for the series. Otherwise the "will he, won't he" thing will drive me insane.

My bet - he was injured on icing when Pallie interfered with him and then Pronger chopped him like mad...

You mean the play where Paille beat him to the puck (which he had every right to), and then Pronger chopped him like mad, along with half the B's team?

I'm a Pronger fan (I don't get to watch him every game like Philly people do), but he did not look "right" even before that play. He was running around out of position and hacking people even more than normal. I thought the Flyer D was much, much better last night than it was in Game 1, with a less than 100% Pronger.

This Pronger business doesn't portend well. The guy is breaking down, presumably from old age, and we have him signed forever. For all he brings to the table while healthy, this was a dumb move for the long-term.

I know we brought him in for the short-term to win a Cup, but when you're starting Brian ****ing Boucher, what chance do you really have?

Broken hand - players of all ages suffer broken bones

Back/hamstring - Players of all ages suffer from back/hamstring injuries

Point - I dont think these injuries have anything to do with the age of Pronger..... The injuries are just bad timing.

Yeah lousy timing given that we have a small window with both Pronger and Timonen playing at peak level. Timonen of late looks like he's on the downward slope. The added minutes have caught up to him. I like Timonen a lot but it's getting hard to defend him now. This is what happens though when you age...it doesn't take much to drop precipitously ...although Recchi somehow has maintained an even pace. Guy though is like a ball of clay....

This guy is an ageless miracle! I still remember when he left the Flyers and I thought that he was on his way down the slope and would retire soon. Unbelievable that he can still keep up with the pace somehow.

I'm wondering if Briere can be like Recchi...but I'm not so sure. Recchi is a much more well rounded player and again he's like clay. I remember they used to make fun of how not really in shape he was (no Rod the bod) but somehow just kept ticking. He's a weeble wobble...

Too bad they didn't stick with signing Bill Guerin
