Question Should be is- When is Danny going to accept his qualifying offer, and if he doesn't by the deadline later today, what will the Sabres do?

Sign him to a long term (4-5 year) deal at a reasonable (3-3.5 million/per) contract.

I'd offer him a 3 years 10 million deal, paying out at 3.6 m, 3.6 m and 2.8 m

I agree. Daniel has turned his game around since coming here, and is becoming a leader. The Sabres should treat him well, in part to reward Briere and in part to repair the Sabres image for the next guy we try to sign. Treating one of our reclaimation projects as a valued part of the organization can only serve us well when trying to add other pieces down the road. Phoenix had all but given up on him, and his role on the Sabres has helped him to blossom. If Brieres experience can help us to grab and turn around another underachiever, then it's worth the commitment.

Briere isn't worth more than $3m max, imo. I actually think Hecht is worth more than him, with Briere's value similar to JP.

I don't see him getting more than 60-65pts

He did have 65 last season, and I see no reason for him to be maxxed out.

we'll see. he may get more if Hecht is playing with them all season. but i certainly don't see him as a 75pt player.

I agree with you, but I think Briere will demand more than Hecht will.

If I was Darcy, I'd do something like this...

- Hope Dumont takes his QO
- Lock Hecht up for say... $10m over 4 years
- Lock Briere up for say... $9.5m over 3 years

Maybe I'm being optimistic, but I think Hecht will have a 20-50-70 year while being our best all-around player (again), and Briere will have a 30-40-70 year. Not sure who else will play on that line, but Vanek I'd say 35-20-55 or Dumont would be 25-25-50.

i think that would be overpaying for Danny, but he does have some good so called 'intangibles'.

I think $3m per would be a good deal for Hecht, while something in the $2.5 range for Danny and JP.

As for production, i think all three guys will put up 60-70 if they play together, with Hecht nearer 65-70 and the other two nearer 60-65.

I don't understand some of your logic here. Why would Hecht get a bigger salary than Briere? You don't want to use intangibles (which they both have) but you are basing Hecht's larger contract off of projections rather than something that has been established and proven (like Briere's scoring). I'd say that Jochen and JP's salaries will be comparable and Briere's will be the highest of the 3. It only makes sense.

It is apparent that we cant agree on the amount that dumont briere and hecht should get.

BUt what we all can agree on is.... long term contract.

I wouldnt mind giving them all long term contracts. We are always talking about locking up our "CORE" players longterm. ANd i agree with the assessment of others that if you work hard and become a core player you will be rewarded.

Cause quite frankly not many players are excited about playing in buffalo, when you compare it to other organizations. I think loyality and hard work should be rewarded and be a key to our foundation.

It would be nice to see all 3 locked up for the next 3-4 years. id be ecstatic. IMO Briere deserves slightly more than Hecht, and Hecht deserves slight more than JP.

Briere 4 years 11 million 2.75 per
Hecht 4 years 10 million 2.5 per
Dumont 4 years 9 million 2.25 per
