are we just going to make threads about how to poach every teams top/most coveted players as they get knocked out of the playoffs? next up jeff carter and JVR
He's extremely underrated. Guy's been up for the Norris, and people act like he's worthless.
Due primarily to inflated offensive numbers playing with some great talent.
He is and probably always will be a trainwreck defensively. Dont get me wrong, I understand the need for some offense on our backline, but I'd rather have 6 guys back there that can take care of their own end first and foremost.
Guy is out of the lineup and the Caps win a ton of games and get their mojo back...he comes back and they get dumped in 4 games against a team that is able to capitalize on their gaffe's.
In addition, he suffered 2 concussions this year...so, it would make total sense that Ranger fans would want to give up very good players and picks for Green.
I want Marc Staal to continue to grow his offensive game, I don't want him to be responsible for covering up all of Mike Green's mistakes.
Staal will never have Greens ability to create offense. A talent like Greens is far more elusive imo. Not that I would swap Staal for Green... although I'm surprised at the boards meh for the leagues top offensive D man, especially when we do have some depth at solid D oriented D to pair the guy with...

No see you're putting words into my mouth.
I never implied Staal will develop into a 25-30 goal defenseman. I said that I want Staal to continue to improve his offensive game (maybe 13-15 goals would be nice) and not have to worry about covering up for Green's constant defensive gaffs.

He's not a "trainwreck". He's not Ray Bourque, but he's not Marc-Andre Bergeron, either. He has the defensive capabilities of a 2nd pairing defenseman, and the offensive capabilities of a #1 defenseman. I'm willing to deal with a few gaffes here or here for some offense.

He's as good as McCabe is defensively.
Which is to say that he's not that good defensively.
Another thing to consider - how many points would he get here if Torts loses confidence in his defensive ability and plays him 9-10 minutes a game instead of the 20+ he gets now?
We've seen this year that in a close game if Torts doesn't trust a guy defensively, he doesn't play.
