If he's healthy for sure I'd be very interested.

The defense is fine--in their own zone. However, that's only part of what a defenseman's job is and the inability to pass and carry the puck out of the zone (and through the neutral zone) are glaring problems that must be addressed. It's a big part of this team's inability to score.

As for Green--it all depends on price. There are very few offensive defenseman who are great defensively. But, they are needed on a team just as much as defensive defensemen.

If we are going to trade the farm for a D-man he'd better be Shea Weber. Glass man Green would be a defensive liability and Staal would be spending most of his shift fixing mistakes.

defensemen realllllly shouldn't be relied upon to carry the puck through the neutral zone.

It's nice to have one who can but if you're totally relying on your defenseman do to that then your team is pretty poorly constructed

e: or your coach is a moron

I want a defenseman who also has a lethal slapper. Not one with a 100 FPH (Feet per hour) shot, someone he can encroach to at least somewhere in the high 80s/low 90s.

Mike Green does have a lethal slapper.

I should have also added "who still can play defense."

Why don't we try Green-Richards-Gaborik?

I don't know about Green. He's a great offensive d-man. He's bad at defense though. I don't buy any of this crap about him suddenly becoming good. He's still below average at best in his own zone.

...and he can. The notion that Green is "terrible" defensively is complete and utter BS. One of the reasons it's so magnified is because he gets left out to dry on a regular basis. His defensive partners have all been awful. He played with Jeff freaking Schultz, aka, "Dubi broke my ankles".

I think he can be alright on D but Boudreau never really did much to help him get better he was just like "welp go out and score some points or some **** i'll give you 30 minutes per night "

Even going to last season against the Canadiens, he'd try to do some fancy offensive move which only lead to a turnover, or if it came down to a 1-on-1 battle, he'd be caught flatfooted.

So no, him being terrible on D is not "complete and utter BS."

I disagree. I've been watching the kid his entire career, and while he has gotten better the past two years, he's far from good. Maybe "terrible" is overstating it, but his defense is still well below average. And while there's truth to your assertion that his partners make him look worse, he hangs himself out to dry just as often.

Mike Green is never going to be a good defensive defenseman. That's okay though, as it's not really his role. There are offensive defenseman, defensive defenseman, and guys that have solid all-around games. Green is a purely offensive defenseman. If he's paired with a solid defensive defenseman, his deficiencies will be less glaring. Still noticeable, but not as harmful.

Now that I've said that, I'll reiterate that I hate him.

You guys don't want him. He absolutely sucks defensively. I'm so tired of Capitals fans saying he's not bad defensively and that he's so much better than everyone says.

I wouldn't mind Green on the Rangers--definitely would not want to trade Girardi for him though. I like our 4 young solid in their own zone defenseman. There are a number of our forwards I wouldn't move for him either. Gaborik, Callahan, Dubinsky, Stepan, Kreider for instance. Work out a 2 for 1 or whatever for him out of the rest and I might be on board.

Why would you do this? Granted he is a talented offensive dman but his defensive skills are lacking, he made a number of glaring defensive mistakes in the Tampa series...the most glaring was the 2 on 1 he totally misplayed Tues night that resulted in a Tampa goal...the guy has had what 2 concussions that we know about and hasn't played a full season since 07-08...thanks but no thanks

^ Exactly. All these threads popping up thinking WAS is going to have a fire sale.

The team is one of the top EC teams that will need a new coach and a few good players.

It would be stupid for them to have a fire sale.

I forgot how much the offseason sucks on HF
