Rangers looking at Goalie Viktor Fasth

http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportblade...cle12961000.ab

Saw this on the Tampa Bay boards and read it and it says the Rangers are one of 4 other NHL teams currently looking at him. Not sure about what to make of it, what do you guys think?

He's 28, put up excellent numbers in the SEL winning goalie of the year, and is playing for Sweden in the World Championships

Hmmm. Thank you for your contribution to the discussion.

If he's willing to sign cheap and is capable of becoming a solid backup I don't see why not. But doesn't seem like a great fit considering we have Hank and Biron next year.

Possibly a replacement for Biron when his contract is up? The guy is under contract with AIK in the SEL for another year but the article says he can break the contract to sign with an NHL club. So maybe Rangers sign him and let him continue to play for AIK or send him to the Whale?

Possibly in place of Dov Grumet-Morris? Maybe they feel there may be a market for Biron in the off-season considering there will be teams who need a goalie:

Florida(Markstrom?)
Atlanta
TB
NYI(DP?)
PHX(Bryz leaving?)
EDM

If there is a market for him I say move him.

Considering after one injury to our goaltending last season, Chad freakin Johnson was our backup.. I'd say we DO need another goalie.

Maybe not NEED but could surely use one

Would be nice to have him as back-up or to know we can call him up when heīs @ the whale.
But i would prefer to Biron as back-up & Fasth in Conn.

IS Grumet-Morris leaving the whale? Didnīt read something about it, would be sad, because i like this guy alot.
And are there some news if Biron wants to leave NY?

NYI could easily move forward with Montoya and DP, with Kevin Poulin ready for a callup.

And you forgot the one with the biggest need, Philly

Yes, he played in their 3-0 win against Austria and the 6-2 Win against USA, Ersberg played in the OT loss against Norway, though

if he's that good and willing to play in hartford it could be a good depth move...but don't we already have like 4 goalies signed after hank and biron and might still sign stacjer? so i'd think someone has to go if we sign him.

I guess the Rangers were a little hasty after drafting Jesper by printing a bunch of jerseys and now want a little insurance that they'll eventually be able to sell them.

Considering that the goals are 188 feet apart I guess you mean he'd be shooting from the 3rd row.

Grumet-Morris is a career minor leaguer. Good chance Ocho Cinco won't be brought back. Bring Fasth in for organization depth and play in Hartford and let Stacjer, Talbot and Misanen fight it out for the backup job. Losers go to the ECHL.

Is he related to Jesper at all?

They need more goaltending depth. Shoulda drafted the Winterhawks kid instead of McKnaught.

Draft one goalie every year even if it's a late round pick is my theory.

Henrik is awesome and Biron is great too but after that, I'm not super impressed.

Don't know how high they are in Dos Nueve anymore. He had a bad sophomore year. Hopefully he can rebound.

I agree, you should always take a goalie in the 6th or 7th while you have an elite franchise goalie, and you might get lucky with a late bloomer Hank/Hasek type guy in the future

I still can't believe that Lundqvist was drafted 205th overall. Man did we get a steal
