That's the difference between good and average players. Good players are able to change their games so they aren't as predictable. MDZ expected he could do the same things he did in his first year and get away with people not expecting it, and that's not true--the league changed their gameplan with him.

Also, he needs to hit the damn net from the point
But he also needs to pick up his defensive game too. His first season, we gave him the benefit of the doubt because he was a rookie and a rookie with a knack for scoring.

I still think he'll be better. At least I hope so.

Yea, he was very weak defensively which to me is what he really needs to work on in the AHL. He clearly has the offensive capabilities and the offensive talent but it would be a moot point if his defense isn't good enough to stay at the NHL level.

I actually thought he greatly improved his defensive play from his rookie season - he wasn't "good", but he wasn't a complete trainwreck, either. I was surprised when they sent him down mid-season - I thought he was really pulling it together, and he was playing better than Gilroy at the moment as well.

He still needs to develop in the AHL, though. If he doesn't play well enough at camp, send him down until he starts really dominating, then call him up when his confidence is not in the gutter. That seemed to be one of his major problems.

He did improve his defense. But at the same time it really wasn't up to the standard of being able to be put out there in any situation and feeling comfortable with it.

Again, I think that on the offensive side of the puck he also needs to work on doing different things then trying to do the same moves; defensively he still needs improvement but I do notice some strides.

I don't think Del Zotto necessarily has to stop doing what he was doing on the offensive side of the puck, he just:

- Needs to be much more decisive with his passing
- Needs to hit the net

He had this little "slump" because opposing teams figured him out rather quickly, and he never adjusted. That's what the majority of sophomore slumps are.

Eh, he's too banged up already and his playoff track record isn't so great. So damaged goods.

The only way I'd do it is if the Caps would be willing to take on a little salary like an Avery and I'd only offer something like Kundratek or Valentenko/Washington's 2nd back and a conditional 1st or 2nd rounder in 2012 based on games played/performance.

When the caps changed style of play and asked him to be more defensive and physical he was concussed twice and his numbers fell of drastically.
An expensive 5/6, PP specialist.

Funny, I was waiting for someone to start this thread.

In the last minute or 2 of game 4 when the Capitals were trying to make it 4-3, Green was knocked down in the offensive zone and instead of getting up to try to prevent the rush going the other way he sat on the ice and argued with the ref because he didn't get a penalty call. And that was the play that St. Louis scored on to make it 5-2. And the announcer pointed to Green and said "You have to get that out of your locker room." He didn't say that Green had to learn from or not do it or anything else. He didn't qualify it by saying how good Green was offensively. He just said "Get rid of him. He ruins your team."

So naturally I was waiting for someone to start this thread.

I tend to agree, and it's still improving.

Carlson- Alzner is the best D pair since Pronger and MacInnis though.

not many great things are created overnight. In 70 games his rookie year Mike Green had 12 points.

Actually it's his moped and pajama pants that makes me not want him on the team.

Really though, that Caps roster is cursed. If they're going to go for an offensive d-man that would cost a lot, why not just target Burns? Dude is awesome.

For people bashing Green as a person, he's up for the "best charity work" award, so just bash his style, because he's by all accounts a great person.

He's a ******. A lot of guys do charity, much easier said than done when you have millions of dollars. Not knocking him or any other athlete that donates, but Green is a clear cut *********.

Have you met him? I've read from a lot of people who met him how great he is with the fans.
