I would keep Versteeg, as much as I didn't like him for most of the regular season I think he and Richards are good together and he's good on the PK. As long as he doesn't dangle as much as he has been, I think he'll be fine.

Get Carter back at centre. He plays well on RW but the team sucks on face offs and he's the best face off guy. It's nuts to keep him out of the face off circle.

Giroux needs to stop with the cute stuff and he needs to shoot the ****ing puck. He also needs to stop with the turnovers.

JvR is not going to play like he did in game 2 game in and game out but he has to play close to that level more consistently. I think he's getting there.

Who to get rid of? Carcillo, Carle, Leino, Zherdev, Boosh and MFL. I think Bob will come back refreshed and will be fine as the #1 goalie but we need a better backup. Bob impressed me tonight because he was challenging the shooter quite a bit, remember in the pre-season he spent to much time back in the crease and started to learn to challenge? He is a very quick learner so keep going with that and his English will be better so that will help him communicate with his teammates. So a reasonably priced backup is a necessity.

I think Homer was just signed to an extension so I doubt he's going anywhere. Sadly.

Wouldn't mind Ehrhoff, Wisniewski, or Bieksa....I doubt Lidstrom leaves the Red Wings unless he's retiring.

For those of you that wanted a homer offseason avatar pic, here's a quick one:

Comic sans is the font I went with if anyone wants to add anything at the top.

Of the list of available defensemen, and not including things that are ridiculous (If Lidstrom is not a Red Wing next year, it's because he's not a hockey player), James Wisnewski is by far the name that intrigues me the most.

It is every players dream to make it to the finals and to lift the cup. To say that they didn't want to win is stupid.

JVR-Giroux-Carter
Leino-Briere-Hartnell
Gagne-Richards-Versteeg
Shelley-Betts-Powe

Carle-Pronger
Coburn-Timonen
Meszaros-????

goalie possibilities ? Schneider ? Varlamov ? Holtby ? Quick or Bernier ? Enroth ? via trade.. will have to give something in return..not sure what

or go with Bobrovsky and maybe get a decent backup like Ty Conklin or J-S Giguere?

what do you think ?

resign Ville Leino 5M for 2 years
bring back Simon Gagne 5 M for 2 years

cant wait to watch this team next season...with the emergence of JVR and Giroux, they will be great !

Blue line needs some more nasty on it. Wiz brings most of the same things White does with less fail.

Agreed. But of course it depends on the cost I'm pretty sure he's a right handed shot and could help the powerplay a bit

A little worried Holmgren will chose instead to over-react to our being physically outworked this series, and add some more Jody Shelley's to the mix. Wouldn't put it past him...

You can't take it literally. I'm saying they lacked the desire to work for the win. They wanted to win, sure, but that's not going to take them anywhere.

I don't know if Homer has a long enough leash to make a series of bad moves. I doubt he can afford another early playoff exit.

Try to get a pick for Carle. Before this series, I thought Carolina might give a 1st for him. Maybe not after.

Let go of Leino, O'Donnell, and Carcillo. Leino's wheel, hold the puck, and throw a pass through the middle hasn't worked since January. O'Donnell's looked gassed since November. Carcillo hasn't had a brain since 1985.

Possibly trade Versteeg, either in a package with Carle and something else for a legitimate goalie, or maybe a defenseman to replace Carle. If we keep him, I won't be pissed IF we get him to stop acting like he's Patrick Kane.

If we don't trade for a goalie, sign Vokoun for 2 years, $3.75 Million per. Some people say he'll get less, but I'm not sure.

Sign Anton Babchuk out of Calgary. Has a bomb on the point (hello, struggling powerplay) and blocks a ton of shots. Calgary fans speculate he'll get around $2.5 million for a few years. I'll say $2.5 million for 2.

Also make a run at Glencross. Word is that he's looking for term more than money, so maybe a contract of $2.5 million for 4 years? I don't know just sign someone of that type for that kind of money. Resign Nodl for 2 years, $900,000 per. See if Holmstrom can make the team. Make those three into a nice two-way line.

Here's what the end product looks like...

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Mike Richards ($5.750m) / Daniel Briere ($6.500m)

Curtis Glencross ($2.500m) / Ben Holmstrom ($0.750m) / Andreas Nodl ($0.900m)
Darroll Powe ($0.750m) / Blair Betts ($0.700m) / Jody Shelley ($1.100m)
/ / Eric Wellwood ($0.580m)

DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Braydon Coburn ($3.200m)
Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m) / Chris Pronger ($4.921m)
Anton Babchuk ($2.500m) / Erik Gustafsson ($0.900m)
Oskars Bartulis ($0.600m)

It was a good season but I feel we didn't have enough punch on this team. At least with the forwards.

Timonen could very well retire but I believe he will try one more season to get the cup because this team can be much better next season with the right players being brought in. This Lavy system has taken its tool on Timonen that is for sure, I would not be against resting him about 10 games next season. This system kills him because he never gives up even when he is tired and hurting (I love that about his game). If Timonen would retire I would go after Jovanovski, but I do not want him to retire at all!

Gone:

Zherdev- I think he would be better served to be under Lavy another season but I just don't see us bringing him back with how inconsistent he was.

Carcillo- He got worse and worse on the Flyers and his diving this year was out of control. I am sure we could trade his rights to a team in the west because he can be a top pest in the league if with the right team.

Leino- We can trade his rights for a decent draft pick and then sign someone else in his place. I am hoping for Cole.

Nodl- Is a dime a dozen player that we could bring up someone else from our minors if need be to feel his role.

Boucher- We need to get rid of our current goalies because the players had to be upset with the goalie play.

Leighton- Above.

Acquired:

Ray Emery- I personally would like him and one other goalie to be in Philly. Emery would be cheap and there could be great reward with him.

Giguire- Another cheaper goalie but with him Emery and Bob in the minors I would feel confident in those 3. Emery/Giguire/Bob is much better than Boucher/Leighton/Bobrosky

Cole- I love his game and his attitude. He knows Lavy's system and he has been in the league for a long time. I was hoping to get him at the trade deadline but Carolina thought that had a chance for the playoffs.

Knuble- The players love him and he is still a beast in front of the net on the pp. He is great along the boards too.

JVR/Giroux/Carter
Hartnell/Briere/Versteeg
Cole/Richards/Knuble (yes I know he is 37)
Shelley/Betts/Powe
Rinaldo playing in Shelleys spot when against smaller teams.

Pronger/Carle
Timonen/Coburn
Mez/O'Donnell
Walker for spot duty and with a long term injury Gustafsson.

Emery/Giguire and Bob in the Ahl for a full season unless something happens which is possible with this team.

PP:

Hartnell/Briere/Giroux
Pronger/Carle

Cole/Carter/Knuble
Timonen/Richards

PK:

Betts/Powe
Richards/Giroux
Versteeg/Knuble

Pronger/Mez
Timonen/Coburn

I know its an older team but I feel that this team would be a really good Stanley Cup contending team. I thought this one was, but it just didn't happen. The goalies are a risk but I believe Emery/Giggy have much better potential than Boucher/Leighton had and they will not cost too much next season to have on the team. Therefore we can keep this team together other than a few small changes.

I would not be against getting a new coach. This system Lavy runs you need to be in perfect condition. Though he is a great coach so who knows....

get rid of boosh ( we needed his 5 shutout performace NOW, not with phoenix)
get rid of versteeg ( dont' like having the 'enemy' on this team )
holmgren needs to go.........just because he's a doesn't have a clue
( hextall would be a better fit in the GM role here )

goalie position NEEDs to be addressed. they don't address that in the offseason, and no center ice purchase for me.

after last seasons run, and the hype they had starting out this season, i thought they would be unbeatable. they were first in the league for longest time with vancouver. then, thye just fizzled away

now that the season is done
and my second favorite team is also done, washington..........guess there will be no need to watch any more hockey
hate the teams that are left in it ( except Nashville would be nice to see go far )
wish we had Rinne in our nets ........... that guy is damn good between the pipes
