Before anyone claims he will not ever be a #1 defender because he wasn't that in Tampa. He was too young for that role and the supporting cast was nothing but crap.

Meszaros-Coburn will be our #1-2 punch after few years, the problem will be the #3-4 guys once Timonen and Pronger are retired/broken. That's why Homer should trade Carle/Versteeg for a 1st rounder in 2011 draft and pick a defenseman. That prospect should be NHL ready in 2-4 years. The other #3-4 can be obtained via free agency.
I can maybe see Meszaros, but there is no way Coburn should be considered a top 2 defender on this team. He didnt have a bad year, but he is far from a top 2 guy.

Yeah, I don't really have a problem with Mesz/Coburn as 1/2 in a few years. At least not if they progress and elevate their play.

A long break may help Pronger and Timonen

I doubt teams are lining up to trade a 1st round pick for Carle or Versteeg. I doubt Versteeg will be moved; we gave up a lot to get him and to turn around and trade him as a salary dump would look awful.

Eh we said the same thing about Versteeg on the trade board... and Homer went and did it.

I can easily see a team trading a first for Carle. They see a top 4 guy with 40 points (with alot of flaws but hopefully they think the "offensive" upside is better)

Remember, we traded a 1st for Steve Eminger. 1st's, especially in weaker drafts, can be dealt with ease. We wont get a top 10 pick but I can see a mid to late 1st coming from either or both of them.

But then it comes down to Homer actually doing it, which being honest, I cant see him doing it.

This is delusional on almost every level.

Richards injury

Just read a Carchidi twitter:

"#Flyers will find out Mon if Pronger (leg/back) and/or Richards (wrist) need surgery"

@taweetthis: @BroadStBull Was there a Richards injury? yes. Wrist.

Wrist obviously...

My question is if it happened near the halfway point why the team didnt have him undergo surgery and then have him come back late in the year. Once this injury hit he obviously was pretty useless. It was amazing to see the contrast in his game, he went from such a gamer to a ghost on the ice.

Every true flyer fan that follows the team could see it

If he is indeed injured requiring surgery then I give him all the props in the world for trying to play through it. Heartless my ass

Unfortunately (I guess) I doubt that was the only hidden injury on the team.

As a canadian/ontario flyer fan I have followed Richards since early junior hockey. He has always been a fearless warrior and a strong leader on his team. This guy is the epitome of a hard nosed hockey player, and it is no coincidence that he constantly draws comparisons to bobby clarke. I know a number of minor hockey coaches in my area that use him as a role model for younger players to style their game after.

Anyone who calls Richards heartless/gutless/a guy who cannot lead a team has probably never played a game of hockey.

Excuses, if he can't find a way to succeed as a Captain on the ice without his wrists, he might as well give up the captaincy now.

Seriously, if anyone doesn't realize this is sarcasm...lol

Not to mention he probably making it worse playing with the injury. Very dedicated to the team and that is why he is the captain.

as captain he should also realize it may be hurting the team more by not sitting out and rehabbing it. as the best team in the league during the time it supposedly happened, i think they could have survived without him.. dunno.

Last year shoulders, this year wrist, and he's only in his 20's. This guy is not built for an extended career.

Sorry to say, but my man here has a point.

Smaller, physical forwards tend to have a shorter shelf life.

Lame.

What's going on with Patrice is scary. I hope he has someone looking out for him... someone that won't let him sink into the horrors of dementia at the age of 50 for the sake of some NHL money.

He had shoulder problems 2 years ago, not last year.
