With the cap talk and signings of the youngsters, it's that time again for this thread.

As always, feel free to point out any mistakes you may see. More info to be added later.

Colby Cohen is not an Avs prospect anymore

Had my head still stuck in the sand over that brilliant use of assets.

They haven't announced the cap max and mins yet, but there was a report in April that it could rise to around $62.2 M. It's risen every year, so it likely will again.

Remember the first year where Bettman insisted they needed a hard cap of $37.5 M that forced Colorado to start ripping their team apart?

It will be fun to see what the team does when it has to go out and spend money. I can't see us getting to the floor with what we have.

It does bode well for us being able to re-sign Fleischmann, I guess. He was such a good fit here and we need to spend a bit.

This is what I would do if I was the GM.

Avs
Resign - Forwards

Tomas Fleischmann [2/3 years - 3.2M per year]
TJ Galiardi [2 years - 1.2M per year]

Resign - Defense/Goalers
Ryan O'Byrne [3 years - 1.7 per year]
Ryan Wilson [2 years - 650K per year]
Brian Elliott [2 years - 920K per year]

Eric Brewer [3/4 years - 4.8M per year]
Matt Climie [2 years - 830K per year] (Depth)
Raffi Torres [2 years - 1.5M per year]

F
Peter Mueller / Paul Stastny [C] / David Jones
Tomas Fleischmann / Matt Duchene / Milan Hejduk (A)
TJ Galiradi / Ryan O'Rielly / Jay McClement
Daniel Winnik / Kevin Porter / Raffi Torres

D
Kyle Quincey - Erik Johnson (A)
Eric Brewer - Adam Larsson
Ryan O'Byrne - JM Liles

Ryan Wilson

If Brewer is too expensive for the Avs office then sign Hal Gill. He was teaching Subban very good this year and brings veteran leadership. If Mueller is done, then we have good depth that could step right in.

Overall it's a decent upgrade from last season. However, we are still thin upfront in terms of goalscoring if Mueller is a no show or injured.

It's amazing how close we are to the cap with just a few moves!

Q: Is the cap hit for Larsson 500k? If so it must be ajusted to the max rookie salary plus bonuses which should bring is cap hit over 3M.

I copied Hedman's salary, 500K ELC and 3,000,000 bonus which should bring it to 3.5M, but Cap Geek didn't update it or something.

Avs are currently sitting with a 28mil cap hit. The new cap floor should be 46.2mil. So they have a little money to throw around.

Avs
Resign - Forwards
Milan Hejduk [1 year - 3.0M]
Tomas Fleischmann [2 years - 3.0M per year]
TJ Galiardi [2 years - 1.2M per year]
David Jones [2 years - 2.5M per year]
Kevin Porter [1 year - 700K]
Justin Mercier [2 years - 820K per year] (AHL)
David Koci [1 year - 600K] (Depth)
Philippe Dupuis [1 year - 575K] (AHL)
Greg Mauldin [2 years - 600K per year] (AHL)
Julian Talbot [1 year - 570K] (AHL)
Ben Walter [2 years - 650K per year] (AHL)
Ryan Stoa [2years - 800K] (AHL)

Resign - Defense/Goalies
Ryan O'Byrne [2 years - 1,5 per year]
Ryan Wilson [2 years - 650K per year]
Peter Budaj [2 years - 1 mil per year]
Jason Bacashihua [1 year - 600K] (AHL)
Shawn Belle [1 year - 630K] (AHL)

Let Go
David Van Der Gulik (UFA)
Matt Hunwick (Trade Bait)
Kyle Cumiskey (Trade Bait)
Brian Elliott(RFA)
John Grahame (UFA/Retire?)
Tom Fritsche (RFA)
Raymond Macias (RFA)
Harrison Reed (RFA)
David Liffiton (RFA)
JM Liles (trade)

Draft
2nd - Adam Larsson
11th - Duncan Siemens or Zibanejad if he falls

Sign FA
Ty Conklin [2 years - 1.8 per year]
Josh Harding [1 year - 1.8M per year], or Turco [1 year - 1.4M per year]
Eric Brewer [2 years - 4.25M per year]
Joni Pitkanen [2 years - 4.25M per year]
Raffi Torres [2 years - 1.5M per year]
Jussi Jokinen [2 years - 2.5M per year] or Alex Tanguay [2 years - 2.5M per year]

F
Jokinen / Paul Stastny [C] / David Jones
Tomas Fleischmann / Matt Duchene / Milan Hejduk (A)
TJ Galiradi / Ryan O'Rielly / Jay McClement
Daniel Winnik / Kevin Porter / Raffi Torres

Cody McLeod
Phillippe Dupuis
Brandon Yip

D
Eric Brewer - Erik Johnson (A)
Joni Pitkanen - Adam Larsson
Kyle Quincey - Ryan O'Byrne

Ryan Wilson
David Koci
Cameron Gaunce

G
Ty Conklin
Josh Harding

Peter Budaj

Trading Liles for picks or prospects would force them to spend another 4 mil, bringing both Brewer and Pitkanen is a stretch, but it would fit nicely. Jokinen is really good, and i think that signing of at least 1 LW is a must do, because i don't see Mueller coming back (I hope i'm wrong, but it seems he's done). If they make all these moves, Avs cap hit would be around 55mil, that's highly unlikely but we can always hope.

Thanks for the template S E P H

Someone should work out how much the Avs will have to spend to reach the cap floor after re-signing some of their RFA's.

Then we will know how much they NEED to spend, because I don't see them spending much over the cap.

And I also don't see them signing guys like Conlkin and Jokinen.

Cap floor will most likely be 46.2mil, if Avs sign all their free agents for the amounts I predicted + 3.5mil for Larsson if they draft him, they will carry a cap hit of 45.5mil.

How will it cost the Avs that much for Larsson? Won't it just be the rookie max of like 900k? I didn't think Bonuses were added to the teams overall cap hit.

Look at Dutchys contract at capgeek. His salary would be around 1mil + bonus.

Oh ok, yeah, makes sense I guess.

That must make it tough for teams though to predict what their cap hits will be throughout various points of the year.

All the performance bonuses count against the cap until it's literally impossible to achieve them, which in a lot of cases doesn't happen until after the last game.

You have three too many players on that roster though. The max is 23.

Also for those referencing Cap Geek's numbers, their cap total is slightly more than what we have here because they have Cameron Gaunce listed with the NHL regulars. I would consider him with the other prospects since he'll be battling it out for a spot just like the rest of them.

Right but the depth players are usually the three players you have sitting out from the 20 man lineup.

I'd say from your lineup you could probably leave Torres out, and put Gaunce and Holos in the minors.

Besides McLeod we lack hitting and size. Torres brings both of those, too easy to shutdown our offensive game.

Rupp, Talbot, or Dupuis are other players that would benefit our team. All of them can forecheck, play PK, and throw around their body. Pittsburgh can't keep all 3 due to cap trouble so we could one of these players.

Why not? He's so much better than McLeod (for the same cap hit) it's not even funny.

Contrary to popular believe Mcleod is an adequate 4th line player, Torres on the other hand is a cheap shot artist, a step below Cooke.
