Patrick Roy - GM or Coach?

Would he better with the habs as our Gm or Coach?

Hope not. He has no experience coaching in the nhl, why would we need him.

Thanks, final answer.

I think he would make an outstanding GM. Few have the desire to win like good old Saint Patrick.

Either is okay, but if we ever signed him, i'd hope he'd get a try as a coach before. I'm not suggesting now, but in the future. As of now, we have okay guys with tons more experience in the fold.

Neither. I don't want the Patrick Roy sideshow in Montreal. Not saying he wouldn't be good, but I feel like he would be a major distraction with the media we have.

If we're talking by next season, neither but I wouldn't mind him stepping in as an advisor or assistant GM. Should management see Price as our center piece, it would be interesting to get his perspective on how this team should be built.

I don't know if it would be wise to give up Kirk Muller for nothing to bring in Roy next year. Muller knows the players and the system and has earned a shot as opposed to Roy. If Roy coached the Bulldogs for a couple of years and had succes, I wouldn't mind seeing him give the NHL a try.

Wasn't he the only one who said we should keep price over halak?

No... The Price-Halak debate wasn't as one-sided as some people tend to believe.

Neither, he belongs in the Q where he can play head games with kids under 20 and refs and buy himself a team every year.

Ironically, it was a hothead that made Roy leave town. WHy would we put Roy, who is a hothead, in charge of anything? Martin has gotten everything he can out of this team. Our scouting staff is the problem imo. We've missed franchise players, even tho we did steal PK. Debatable whether I'd want Kopitar or Price at this point. No size on this team is hurting us, and I think Roy would address that issue. You could say our GM's have been TOO patient. But I don't want a hothead either.

we have a solid group of good young players despite only having one top 5 pick in the last 20 years...Price Subban Weber Pacioretty Eller(via trade but identified by our scouts) plus Latendresse who has shown he can be a top 6 winger and score 25-30 each year. That's a pretty darn good crop from our scouts...

Instead of worrying about every player we "missed", which makes ever NHL team look bad, look at what we got.

You know, I wouldn't mind seeing Roy in an assistant position temporarily, be it assistant coach or assistan GM, so that he could learn the ropes a bit. I think he has got that flare that sometimes BG and PG lack in terms of making a risky trade or risky pick in the draft. A GM like PG and a passionate guy like Roy I think would make a good tandem in the head office.

he's too emotional to be a GM. I would love him as a Coach or assitant but not now.....maybe in 3-4 years .

Neither.

That said, we need a good GM. We've had mediocre ones for far too long.

He could be a great remplacement to Muller and will surely be a great mentor to our best player. (Carey) But he might be too vocal and not fit in our organisation with his attitude and everything. He might take too much place in the media also like George Laraque did.

Patrick Roy is not the mentoring type
Not Habs brass material
Winning as a player does not always translate into winning as a coach or GM
He's displayed traits that can be detrimental to the club

NO THANKs

Maybe, maybe not. Sports history tells us that great players often do not make great or even good coaches. Roy was undeniably a great goalie, but can he impart some special knowledge to Price that a proper goalie coach couldn't? Plus, one of Price's best attributes IMO is that he generally seems pretty cool headed regardless of the situation. Not sure Roy is the guy you want working with Price.

Those of you in Quebec who follow the Q closely might be able to answer if Roy's teams either consistently churn out better goalies or (more telling) do they show improved goaltending as a given season wears on?

And I agree on the other part. Hard to imagine Roy in any capacity with the team that didn't involve regular tirades against our team, the other team, refs, league, etc. You'd have to hire Chuck Barris as Media Director and I think it would get old pretty quick.

Roy works mostly with the forwards in Quebec, not the goalies.

Not sure who you'd be debating with. Perhaps some people would have had that debate with you last year. This year, not so much. Not to take anything away from Kopitar, he's a great player.

Roy wants firewagon hockey(remember him trashing the Guy Boucher's system). We'd have specutacular O in Montreal once again, but at what cost?

I would still take Kopitar over Price ( not back in 2005 tho ).

Kopitar + Halak and no Gomez > Price +Gomez+Eller
