And if the Wings lose the series, they're in the same exact position as the Caps. I'm sure they won't care that it took them a few extra games to get there.

If anything, hope the Caps' two Swedish centers can develop into something similar to #13 on the Wings. Those two should be watching and learning.

But clearly there is nothing for BB to learn. Things like adjustments, instilling confidence, etc. Oh, by the way, one less comparison for the Bruce bandwagon to turn to; Babcock still >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bruce. Although that was obvious way before Detroit's little surge.

That didn't take long, lol.

Russia gets the 4th seed in their group and draws top seeded Canada in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

When Russia loses, who wants to bet that it won't be used against Ovechkin in any Crosby/Ovechkin discussion, despite Crosby not even being there.

Of course it will. I mean, Crosby would obviously elevate Konstantin Gorovnikov as a line mate and lead the Russian to victory if he were in Ovechkin's stead.

Man watching Erat and Kostitsyn play reminded so much of Semin`s antics....Erat less so than Kostitsyn, but painful.

The Caps need more Joel Ward/Ryan Kesler and less Semin if they want to succeed in the playoffs.

Imagine Kesler and OV on a line !

A week or so away and old posters surface

Not sure where to put this, but Friedman's latest 30 thoughts, including 15-18, which are Caps-related thoughts.

When Kostitsyn took that puck behind the net with 30 or so seconds last night and then fumbled it away....first thing that came to mind was Semin.

Sigh.

Nashville and Poile are way to smart to take on Semin.

Friedman's 15th and 16th thoughts are dead on with what I have been thinking. Thanks SK8. Words like tenacious, aggressive, hunger, urgency, are words George and Fish (a future GM ?) need to start searching for as they peruse players bio's. Need I say that George himself needs to have urgency in doing so to save his own ass.

Quote:
15) When I see the Nashville Predators, I see what Washington's missing - a hunger, a sense of urgency. If you could combine the Capitals roster with the Predators' ferocity, you'd have a hell of a team.

16) Washington's needs: speed on the defence and among the bottom six forwards; a major core player removed to shake up the group; and the addition of an aggressive, tenacious Top 6 forward (really don't like to say they need a North American up front, so let's just say a player with a "North American" attitude).

Babcock's so composed. The Wings go ahead and he gets a little sip of water. No big deal. Boudreau would have lost his ****.

detroit has heart. they have the advantage being the perfect team to pull the choke card on the sharks. the sharks are trying to fight thru the same poo that the caps have to. it doesnt relent round to round. its working them over big here.

I thought we were comparing caps to wings a few days ago.

And just cause 29 team's don't win the cup, that doesn't mean they have the same chance at next cup. Wow.

there are some that refuse to acknowledge that the caps history works against them every season. a similar history is working against the sharks right now. there's no question that a team like the caps and the sharks can win, its just harder because all the questions are going to be there as to how they might lose this time.

for the caps and sharks it doesnt matter if they are ahead in a series or behind, the focus is still on them losing. that is a weight to carry.

the wings are the opposite. their history propels them forward. they have a history of winning. They are pushed toward winning and if they stumble, its just one of those things.

When March hits the media always starts talking about how noone will want to play the red wings while at the same time talking about who the sharks and caps dont want to play or who wants to play them.

i sort of thought this season might be a sharks v caps final where both teams could put their best foot forward because one was going to win. now it looks like they both might have advanced but face an end thats rather epic.

Would like to see the Sharks win tonight, but have to believe Detroit will.

The Red Wings just have to contend with the Sharks. The Sharks have to battle both Detroit and their doubts about their ability to win these kind of games. That mental uncertainty can actually be pretty fatiguing, and may help explain why the Sharks can't put the Wings away with leads in the 3rd period.

The Sharks best hope would seem to be for the game to end 0-0 in regulation and have a first goal wins scenario in OT -- because they've shown in the last 2 games they can't protect a lead in the 3rd period, and I'm pretty skeptical about their ability to come from behind against Detroit.

Should be a good one regardless.
