Emelin is more talented Kasparaitis? One of the biggest jokes EVER.

And no, not a good fighter:

If Weber, Markov and Subban play and stay healthy, that is three offensive D in the line-up. Wiz, while good, just doesn't fit.

The team needs an upgrade at forward far more than it needs a fourth scoring D.
Wiz is a guy you can trade for good value, so i believe we should sign a guy like him. Look at Chicago's defence, it's just as exepensive and full of offensive Ds. With a defence of Gorges, Markov, Wiz, Subban, Weber and Emelin, everybody is tradable, so the is no problem.

Look at what Pit got for Goligovski, i think it's a very good thing to have a lot of skilled d-mens. It's not like the Hammer, Gill, Mara, Spacek and O'Byrne era, where almost nobody had any value on the trade Market.

Let's not declare victory yet, Habs fans. I remember very well in the summer of 2007 the media reports the contract was done and all that was needed was his signature. His Russian agent suddenly got involved out of the blue, signed a deal with Kazan and that was that.

Also, the Habs fans hype machine will be out in full force if this gets done and I think people are setting themselves up for disappointment. He hasn't really done anything at the WC this year. I am reading posts talking about him as a point producer, it seems like a stretch. He has had 1 big KHL offensive season people. IF he does sign, I think if he settles in as a tough/physical #4 or #5 d-man next season, a player we clearly need, he would be doing well. Anything more than that is gravy.

Why is everyone so eager to sign Hammer when Jan Hejda is on the market and would come at the same price(3-4m) as Hamrlik would. Of course you'd have to sign him to a longer term than Hammer but still. Best case scenario they also trade Spacek.

Hejda-Subban
Markov-Wisniewski
Gorges-Emelin
Weber

If re-signed, hammer would take closer to 2 mil than 3-4, but your point still stands. Either that or we pay a bit more and get someone like brewer or erhoff.

Let's be fair, you're cherrypicking one fight where Emelin got his orbital bone (or whatever) broken by Alex Svitov, a pretty tough customer in his own right.

One punch doesn't mean he's not a good fighter, don't be ridiculous.

If we get Emelin, Jagr may not come.

Care to add anything of value rather than just be a smart ass?

Kasparaitis was never a skill player. Emelin has shown flashes of good skill when i've seen him in the World Juniors. His numbers this season in the KHL would indicate the guy has some skill.

If you've seen more of him, then by all means share your thoughts.

He's not a fighter, just an agitator. That's literally his only fight:

I distinctly remember seeing a couple of his scraps after some questionnable hits. Could i be wrong ? Haha...maybe Just saying. I'm sure a guy like Kaspar wasn't much of a fighter before the NHL. We will see right ?

I wouldn't use HockeyFights.com to judge how many fights Emelin has been in. Because that fight (Emelin/Svitov) is the most recent KHL fight video uploaded: http://www.hockeyfights.com/leagues/40

So either nobody in the KHL has fought since March 2009, or Hockey Fights just doesn't bother keeping up with the KHL's tilts. I think we know which one is most likely

Personally I don't know much more about Emelin's fighting history than anyone else, but I find it very hard to believe he hit 117 PIMs in 62 games without a fight thrown in here and there.

1. Hejda isn't automatically coming to Montreal.

2. Hamrlik at 2 mil would save dough for a top six forward.

3. Hamrlik knows JM's system.

4. Hamrlik scored more points and blocked more shots. LOL

I agree that Emelin replaces Hamrlik, and I think Hamr with a little more nastiness could be a good comparison for Emelin. Hoping we bring back Gill, but I'm not so sure now. Wis I hope comes back.

Markov-Wisniewski
Gorges-Subban
Gill-Emelin
(Mara-Weber)

Was hoping we'd bring in Carkner, but don't think that has any chance now.

Emelin reminds me of Kronwall in the videos I've seen. To me that's the best comparable, although I'm not saying he will be as good, just that his skills are similar. Physical, borderline dirty, mobile, some offensive skills, pretty good vision (one video shows him making a nice fake shot / cross ice pass).

Unless something goes radically amiss in next week Yemelin should be in MTL Next Year

http://twitter.com/#!/TSNBobMcKenzie...16638780456960

If Bobby Mac says it that means its true. Here are his tweets:

Here's the update on MTL and Russian dman Alex Yemelin: He wants to play in NHL next season and Canadiens want him.

When MTL GM Pierre Gauthier gets back from the Worlds next week, he's expected to finalize a contract with Yemelin's agent.

Unless something goes radically amiss in next week, Yemelin should be in MTL starting six on blueline next season. Regarded as NHL ready.

QUESTION: Y/emelin may be great, but if his heart's not 100% in Montreal I'd have passed. Hope I'm wrong, but if 1-way the deal's too risky for me.

ANSWER: Entry level deals are all two-way.

YAY Finally some nastiness!
