Not Cooperalls! Noooooo!!!!!!! That uniform looks like the players should have dress shirt collars sticking out of the necks of their jerseys in a "I've got to get to my piano recital right after the game" look.

Interesting. I've always thought they looked like pajamas.

They were going to revolutionize hockey, until it was discovered (the hard way) that the protection was nowhere near good enough. I had a few friends ruin their knees sliding into the boards while wearing Cooperalls.

I seem to recall reading that the teams participating in the WC had to agree to being filmed for 24/7 this year.

There was a huge difference watching Bylsma and Boudreau last year. Torts vs Lavi anyone?

I think NBC is the deciding factor again, seeing as Jan. 1 would be a Sunday, and they'll have football on all day/night.
no as its already been stated
the Eagles have a home game on jan 1

theres no possible way you can have 2 major events 500 feet from one another in the same day

OK, I want it.

I bet they might be surprisingly similar. I expect Torts to be more intense and demanding though. He seems almost unbalanced, haha....guess we'll find out

Long pants/Cooperalls:

Pat Quinn was initially a huge proponent of the long pants. Opposing players (Mike Liut was one) complained that the puck got lost in the leg of the pants and that led to a disadvantage. Eventually, the NHL Board outlawed them based on a mandate that all uniforms be uniformed. There was also a comfort factor, or lack thereof despite the opinion that the pants would reduce injuries. However, there was a preseason game when Ilkka Sinisalo (rookie season, IIRC) slid into a goalpost in Montreal and it was stated that the pants prevented a severe injury. Slim chance they'll be making a comeback.

Really? Interesting. Everyone I knew that wore 'em ended up with some type of leg injury. It was a small sample size though.

I have been corrected by the master!

November 1st, 2009 - Eagles v Giants @ the Linc & Phillies v Yankees @ CBP (World Series)

It wasn't planned that way, obviously, but it can be done. The NHL doesn't want to compete with NFL games.

Fortunately, I think cooperalls are an impossibility since the league outlawed them in '83
I think were most likely to see the 80s-90s style orange jersey with the black striping around the shoulders and the black stripe at the bottom.

And vokoun in brown pads

Whatever they do, is likely to become the new third jersey... so I'd actually kind of expect a black jersey, to be honest.

Maybe the black 90s alternate/late 90s home version?

Maybe they do something new and make a jersey with the current template but black with orange shoulders and stripe, similar to medicine hats jerseys? That could be kind of cool

black versions of the current set would look pretty cool, maybe with orange shoulders? that may be a bit over the top, but it'd be interesting.

rangers will probably go with a "vintage" white version of their current thirds.

I'm not a big fan of the black jerseys, so I'd actually prefer it if they didn't do that... I actually would love to see 'em trot out their 80's orange jerseys, but just don't think that makes sense from a marketing perspective (and it's all about whether the jersey will sell).

I'd like to see something like that too, but black seems like the only option they've really got. Kinda sucks.

Ugh. I hated the black jerseys... Give me orange please... I'm sure they could come up with something to make them original.

I wonder. If by December there is still no football, and its clear there won't be any football being played on Jan 1st, any chance the league/nbc moves the game back to New Years day?

I was always under the impression that they were considered dangerous as well. I remember the players not liking them, thought that was why.

This is awesome! I don't understand why some people are not excited about this, who cares if other teams have a chance at the WC at least the Flyers get two

I hope I can get tickets! Any idea what they ran for last year?

So you didn't complain about the Penguins getting it that fast again?

I honestly didn't no. I understand why they want to use the bigger market teams. No one is going to Minnesota vs Colorado in the winter classic.

I don't care if it is fair or not I am just excited I might get a chance to go to the Winter Classic and see the Flyers on 24/7!
