Well, let's hope 5 days will be enough for Samuelsson and Henrik to get back to at least 80%+.

Both Higgy and Kesler took a lot of bumps and bruises over the last 13 games as well. It's also been a little over 15 games since Edler returned from his injury... Let's hope that's enough for him to get back to form.

Malhotra is seen skating with the Canucks at UBC today. Dare to hope that he may play at some point in the playoffs?

Edit: never mind...didn't see a thread on this already.

I think you'll find Hank will need off-season surgery.

Anyone have an update on Samuelsson? Can we expect him back at some point in the next round? A functional Samuelsson would be a significant addition. He was our leading scorer in the playoffs last year.

I seriously doubt he comes back for this round.

Not necessarily. A groin issue would explain the poor skating/balance issues we are seeing. Time would heal that injury, not surgery.

We'll get a much clearer sense of the severity in game 1 of the WCF IMO.

I agree; him and Samuelsson (Murph already speculated that Samuelsson was in need of surgery, and that was before the first round was even half over).

I read in another topic that someone saw him around without a cast or crutches. It's no update but it could be a good sign. Take it for what it's worth.

Looks more like an unstable knee joint.

Short of a quick trip to Lourdes, Malhotra will not be back this season.
Asked if there was 'any chance' Malhotra could appear somewhere down the line, Bowness replied: “No, no, unless there is a complete miracle. No, no chance.”

“It was a thrill for all of us to see Manny on the ice and the guys really, really enjoyed having Manny on the ice with them,” Bowness said. “I had to give him heck right away because he went offside on one of our simple little warmup drills. But there is no change in Manny's status.”

^agreed. It's better to play it safe and let him fully recover for next season if things are not getting better by round 4.

its good to see manny on the ice again, even if he doesn't play in this playoff. for awhile there i was worried he might lose the eye, so its good to see that he can keep his vision, and down the line might be able to continue playing the game that he loves.

Im so happy for manny that he signed that 2.5million contract before this happened. Nothing worse than becoming a FA with a career threatening injury.

I think with Manny, nothing is certain yet. He's able to skate, so he'll be in shape. If by round 4 he's cleared to play without any real danger, it wouldn't surprise me to the slightest. It's a wait and see kind of thing, where nobody is holding their breath and there are no expectations. I like that, the fans and players shouldnt expect him back, if his recovery goes well ahead of schedule (unlikely, but possible) he'll be ready.

Manny dug his way out of the gutter before. He was invited to our training camp on a try-out at the start of the 09-10 season. For some reason he was signed by the Sharks for a measely 700k. I still do this day wonder why Gillis didn't grab him then, I guess he was still sold on Wellwood and Johnson. Anyways, the following year we grabbed him for his current 2.5mil NTC contract.

IIRC he wasn't on a tryout but seeing as he makes his offseason home in Vancouver, was just at 8 rinks w/ the Canucks working out with them. Same with Willie Mitchell this past offseason.

09-10 we had Scatchard and Parrish as tryouts.

Henrik & Higgins are not at the practice, again.

Manny Malhotra helping out with drills again this morning - leading the team stretch

How much "fun" is too much "fun?"

Malhotra was a training camp invite, then. My point remains, I'm surprised we didn't sign him then considering he was at Canucks training camp and we saw what he was capable of, especially for a price tag like that. I doubt it's that Malhotra would have prefered to play for the Sharks, considering he signed here the following offseason.

and how long until he decides he can't wait to wet his whistle with some real game action?

No, Malhotra wasn't a training camp invite. He never signed any kind of contract with the Canucks. He was merely skating with members of the team prior to training camp.

Yup, in hindsight the Canucks should have nabbed him. But he never should have gotten to the fall as a UFA regardless. Seems like lately there are a number of players who fall into this position every fall.

Have you seen his eye? He still can barely see from it. As has been reported, there's no way he passes the NHL vision test (and that's a requirement to return).

This isn't what about what he wants or what the team wants.
